Up for a NO RESERVE auction today is a 1998 Acura 2.5 TL with very low miles. From what I know, this vehicle was owned by an elderly person and was rarely ever driven. It is finished in a beautiful pearl white with the more desirable charcoal interior. Most of these cars have beige interior from what I've seen while looking around. Being a '98 makes this the very last year for this body style and also the last year for the inline five cylinder engine. I will tell you my honest opinion of this car and describe it as accurately as possible. If I didn't need a truck I would actually keep this car for myself. These are kind of hard to find let alone with under 100,000 miles! The inside of this car is uncommonly well kept. There are no bad odors inside. The carpet and headliner are very clean. The seats show almost no wear at all! None of the wood on the dash or console show any cracking. There is a small crack in the dash right up at the windshield which you almost have to be outside looking in to see. In addition to power windows, locks, seats, sunroof and mirrors...this Acura sports fully automatic climate control that works perfectly. The air is so cold I can hardly stand it when you just start the car up and it goes on max to cool it down from being parked with the windows up. There is also an AM/FM cassette/CD sound system that sounds amazing, too. Everything inside works as it should. In a moment of stupidity, I removed the battery to start a project car that was sitting at an angle which made it hard to jump. This triggered the security on the stereo and it now says "CODE" (which I don't have). I am currently working on this. On the outside, the paint has a great shine. The wheels are a little scratched up but the tires have miles of tread on them. There are some scratched and nicks on the bumpers but they are nothing out of the ordinary for a 12 year old car. There are two things that are most odd about the outside of this car, though. On the passenger side there are two areas where the paint is split. One is above the rear passenger door and the other is on the "A" pillar right by the mirror on the same side. I cannot even imagine how this happened. Both are showing some surface rust just from metal being exposed. It almost looks like someone with a baseball bat hit it. I have taken specific pictures of both. Other than that, there is nothing wrong with the outside of the car. It looks like the factory badges were removed from the trunk. You can still see where they belong. Overall this is a great looking car. Mechanically I can't find anything bad to say either. I honestly don't know much about the 5 cylinder engines so I can't really give a great report but it seems to run well. It starts up every morning and runs nice and cool all day long. Like I said, the air conditioning works great, there are no leaks that I was able to find, it never smokes or does anything concerning. Knowing that it spent a lot of time sitting around, I just had an oil service done and had the transmission flushed this weekend. The transmission works well and doesn't slip at all. The suspension is nice and tight and the brakes are great, too! Up around highway speeds there is a slight vibration in the steering. This may very well just be flat spots from sitting, which will go away when driven often. To be on the safe side, plan on having an alignment done. They aren't expensive and it will save trouble down the road. Anyone interested is welcome to come see the car in person. Inspections and test drives are welcome. Like I said, if I didn't need a truck there is no way I would let this car get past me. I see a lot of cars in my line of work but certain ones stand out to me and this is definitely one of them.
