Never driven in the snow (wait until the sand is cleaned in April from winter roads before it goes out), and only driven in the rain twice!! Once in surprise rain storm and twice during a memorable trip from Omaha to Los Angeles. In both instances I pulled over and let the rain finish before resuming the drive. Yes, I'm that fanatic about it, I once took a cab home from work so I don't drive it in the rain (it is always garaged at home and at work). Always washed by hand or touch-less car washes. Always requested NO WASH at the dealership, special care was taken when the car was prepped for delivery. I have to part with my beast because the 2012 M5 is on the way and I need to set the stage financially for it - I did the same thing with the E39 M5 I used to own. In case you're wondering about this 2006 M5: All recall notices (including VANOS and steering) have been performed. And I've never had any trouble (knock on wood) with SMG transmission or iDrive. Always maintained at a BMW dealership, first at BMW Gallery in Norwell, MA, then at Markel BMW in Omaha, NE. I also have been good about topping of the engine oil. The car is at a point now where it doesn't require it as often as when new. The break-in instructions were strictly followed and the sticker is still attached on the windshield. No accidents with this car, period. And despite my best intentions, it is still a used car, so the usual wear and tear and chips do happen. Luckily for me, the car has been covered in a custom protective film from day one (more on that later), but as you can see from the pictures, there's a noticeable stone chip at the bottom of the front bumper. And a couple under the passenger side outside mirror. I also have a curb rash on the front right wheel (got it first week in owning the car, and decided to keep the wheel as "lucky" rash!). OptionsBought this car new for $104,xxx on 11/7/2005. Options: Portland Brown full leather, iPod integration, premium sound, heated rear seat, rear seat airbags, multi-function ACTIVE front seats, Comfort Access, Heads-up Display, split-down rear seat, power rear sunshade with side window shades, SIRIUS satellite radio. I also updated the navigation map DVD in 2009. I also upgraded the taillights to 2008+ style LEDs. The lights are BMW OEM, and the converter to LED is non-strobing, so it's not a hack-job ;-) Custom Protective Film - You'll appreciate this!From day one, the following areas were protected by the 3M clear protective film: front-end, ENTIRE hood, side mirrors, all four door handles (inside handle and under handle to protect from finger nails and keys), under fuel door, ENTIRE rear bumper (including decklid) and the top of the rear spoiler (so you don't smudge dust into paint when you close the trunk).Since July/2010: I refreshed the film, covering all the above mentioned areas PLUS A-pillars and area ahead of sunroof, ENTIRE rocker panels (both sides), face of door handles, area between rear door and rear wheel well, and finally the front light lenses. Comes with BMW car cover!!!
