Vehicle Detail
Winter is coming! You NEED a 4x4! This is a well-equipped, good running 4x4 Explorer with many extras and a few problems. It has the 4-liter V6 (the only engine offered in 1991), Automatic transmission, four wheel drive with automatic locking hubs, cruise control, tilt wheel, electric windows and door locks, air conditioning, roof rack, rear window wiper and washer and cloth seats. The previous owner told me he had put the vinyl seat covers you see in the photos on when it was new, and the original cloth upholstry is still there, underneath. The vinyl wore so well I never had occasion to check to be sure, but I had no reason to doubt. I bought this Explorer in 1996 with 110,000 miles on it. The previous owner told me the transmission had gone out, and been replaced with a 1994 unit. I've never had any problems with the tranny. The 4x4 works in both high and low ranges, though it sometimes takes several pushes of the button to turn it on and off. I've had the automatic locking hubs serviced regularly, and they work perfectly. At 200,000 miles, a piston ring broke and scored its cylinder. I did a total rebuild. I had it bored .030 over, the heads completely reconditioned, put in new pistons, rings, bearings, oil pump, timing chain and gears, a Competition Cams RV cam, Competition Cams 1:1.6 roller rockers, and Borla stainless headers. 115,000 miles later it's still running strong and always starts easily. The only major thing that doesn't work is the air conditioning. I had it converted to R-134 quite some time ago, and it worked fine for years afterward. Now it doesn't. The rest of the ventilation system works, but no cool. There's an add-on JVC 12-cd changer, but I'm not sure whether it still works. The remote is included, and I wish you luck. The factory am/fm/cassette works fine, and I have a spare I'll include if I can find it. I also have a pair of running boards I'll include. They were on it when I bought it, but I didn't like them, so I took 'em off right away and they've been sitting in the garage ever since. The electric windows all work, but the driver's window is a bit jerky. It may need a new motor before long, but that's not a difficult or expensive job. As you can see, it's got quite a bit of rust at the bottom. The rocker panels rusted out and I had them replaced about ten years ago. Now, they're gone again. The rest of it is solid. No missing door bottoms or holes in the roof. The lift gate and glass gas cylinders are even good, so you won't get konked on the head getting in the back. The paint is in pretty poor condition, especially on the hood and top, and I don't think Turtle Wax is gonna help much. It has a trailer light hookup, the standard flat 4-conductor connector, and a 2" ball. The tires are Bridgestone Dueler 260R70-15. They're usable, but down to probably 20% tread. The battery is new--a Duralast Gold 7-year battery. I've put a reserve on it, but it's pretty low; about what I'd expect if I sold off the Ranger wheels alone. I'm in St. Louis, and can arrange to meet for delivery up to about 100 miles. Contact me if you'd like to see it in person, or if you need more information.
