Vehicle Detail
This is a 2004 Honda XR400 Dual Sport dirt bike. It is street legal in most states with a head light, tail light / brake light, single mirror & D.O.T. off road tires. There are no turn signals as they are not required in Colorado (hand signals for street use). I purchased the bike from a friend who hardly ever rode it. I intended on using it as a commuter back and forth to work a few miles and then to go play on the weekends. However I ended up driving 95% on the street and only about 5% in the hills. I have realized that if I am not going to go play in the dirt any more than I do...then its pointless for me to have this type of bike. I purchased it with about 1,500 on the odometer and have put about another 1,500 on it since. The title shows 0 miles because the odometer wasn't original factory equipment, even though it was put on when the bike was brand new. It is in excellent condition and has been regularly maintained while in my care. I have always stored it in a garage or under cover and it should show by the new condition of all the plastic and seat. The only flaw is on the tank decals. It has bubbled up in many spots on both sides due to fuel spilling over from fill ups. Most of the bubbles have popped so it just looks like little pieces of sticker missing on the tank. The tank holds just over 2 gallons and that usually goes about 100 miles or so. Obviously it will get less mileage when it is used off road more or if your on the throttle more than me. I did have the carb dialed in for our elevation around 6,000 feet. It starts usually with 1 or 2 kicks. I rode it all winter also, even on sub zero days it ran well but took about 5 - 10 kicks to stay running when it was that cold. The previous owner had a 1" lowering link installed due to his height. I am 6'0" and it is still a comfortable height for me. Other than the lowering link and the street legal stuff there are no aftermarket items on the bike. Anyone who knows these bikes will tell you that they are bullet proof motors and many wonder why Honda stopped building them. This the last year they built the XR400 and many of my friends who see the condition that it is in tell me that I should keep it since it may be a collector's item someday. However I need to something different for transportation since I never really go in the dirt anymore. The bike is in Montrose, CO and can be picked up locally. I can arrange to meet up to 100 miles for the price of fuel round trip. I will assist with shipping any way I can, but I don't have any way to crate it or load it other than a motorcycle ramp. If you have any other questions please send me a message and I will reply as quickly as I can. The bike is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early if it sells here. I will accept a $500 deposit via PayPal upon auction close and the balance would be due upon pick up. Unless previously arranged, it must be picked up within 1 week of auction close or the deposit will be forfeited. On Aug-25-10 at 09:06:02 PDT, seller added the following information: 08/25/10 I just remembered that I have to travel to Denver, CO on August 29th for some training. I will be there for 1 week and will have limited access to the internet during that time. I will try to respond to any questions in a timely fasion. If you are the winning bidder I will try to make arrangements with you ASAP so the title can be signed over when I return home. Also, I do have the original owners manual and tool kit. The tool kit is a must especially for the spark plug...it can be difficult to remove without the factory tool.On Aug-25-10 at 09:10:14 PDT, seller added the following information: I am still riding this a couple miles back & forth to work so the mileage might have an extra 15 - 20 miles by auction close.
