This car was bought new at Imported Cars of Greenwich in Connecticut on August 3rd, 1984 by a Mr. Joseph Apozzo. It lived in Purchase, NY until 2003 when Mr. Apozzo sold the car to a good friend who retired and brought the car here to Arizona where it has only been driven another 3k miles over the last 7 years. The car has lived its life in the dry Arizona climate and saw only limited use during New York's summer months, so you know it is solid as a rock. It is rare to find these SL's with this kind of low mileage because once you drive this car you won't want to get out. The paint on the car is still its original coat of 501 Orient Red with contrasting light gold hand-painted pinstripes. It is in fantastic condition given that this car just celebrated its 26th birthday! The car has been completely inspected underneath from front to back and is solid as a rock as an Arizona car should be, and obviously was only used in fair weather while in New York. There is not a single bubble or any sign of rust from front to back. It is also straight as an arrow with not even a door ding to be seen. The car is riding on the original Mercedes 14" Bundt alloy wheels with very good Michelin radial tires. All chrome trim, original glass, and rubber seals are in great shape. The very unique Dark Maroon soft top is brand new and was just installed last week, and the plastic windows are not scratched or yellowed in the slightest. The hard top has good seals and the headliner is in awesome shape. Overall the exterior appearance of this car is a 9 out of 10. The interior is in great shape all around. The dash and door panels are in very nice condition. The supple tan leather seats are all in very good condition and look very nice with no rips or ware lines, which shows the quality of leather used in this car. The wood grain is in excellent condition. The carpets are all very nice and show great. The car even still retains its original Mercedes floor mats which are still in nice condition. All dials and controls function as they should, power windows and antenna also are fully functional. The sound system is also very nice with the newer Alpine CD player and upgraded speakers still in the factory locations. All lights, gauges switches, and accessories work as they should. Mechanically, this SL runs GREAT! The car starts right up and shifts smooth as silk. It drives as good now as the day it rolled of the lot. The V8 engine is surprisingly quick and responsive. It is reliable, easy to fix, and parts are readily available. The car has always been extremely well maintained and doesn't leak a drop! The A/C system was just checked out and received a full service and blows ICE COLD!! The car drives, stops, and brakes exactly as it should with no surprises! Many of you who have researched or know about 380sl's know about the timing chain defect which caused serious damage to early 380sl cars, which resulted in Mercedes offering double-chain conversions under a worldwide recall. With this car you don't have to worry about any of that. 1984 was the first year Mercedes corrected the issue from the factory, and installed double timing chains at the time of the engine build-out. This will give you peace of mind and allow you to marvel at the technology of the all Aluminum 3.8L V8. It remains the lightest 8-Cylinder engine ever used by Mercedes, and has horsepower comparable to the much heavier 4.5L which it replaced. The suspension is very tight and feels solid even at autobahn speeds above 90mph. The car was always regularly serviced by German Car Service here in Scottsdale. The book shows regular dealer maintenance in the service book. The car will include 2 keys, complete tool kit, original Michelin spare tire (Never Used!), 2 top removal tools, and the maintenance books and owners manuals. All in all, this is one of the cleanest and nicest 380SL's that I have had the privilege of being associated with. It has been professionally maintained and truly loved by its previous owners.
