Vehicle Detail
I am proud to present my stunning '88 IROC Z convertible survivor with only 42,047 miles that I have owned since last November. This car retains it's original bright red paint, striping and emblems that look virtually new! The interior is deluxe grey with optional leather seats that are all like new. Only small wear mark on drivers seat bolster. The car has option group 3. Options include power windows, locks, seat, mirrors, antenna and trunk pull down. Tilt wheel, AC, ERS stereo, pulse wipers, cruise control, door edge guards, body side moldings, split rear seat, halogen headlights. Performance options include the optional 5.0 TPI engine with automatic overdrive transmission with positraction and optional 16" wheels. It's pretty much a loaded car. Only missing four wheel disk brake option. I have a binder with original window sticker, build sheets, sales invoices and service receipts. This car sold for over $23,000 in 1988. How many desireable collector cars can you get today for a lot less than when they were new? And this one is almost new! I love all the advertised cars that claim they are all original, except all the body panels have been changed and repainted and everthing has been rebuilt. That's not original. This car is all original, except the tires, from what I can tell. The doors hood and trunklid bear the original VIN stickers as well as the ASC conversion sticker on the drivers door. Condition of the car is unbelievable for 22 years old! I cannot detect any paint work except for small touch ups that are hardly noticeable. It is super straight and has a deep wet shine. There are very very small nicks on front edge of the hood and front bumper, undetectable from 5 feet away. It's not perfect, but well beyond excellent. The stripes and emblems have no fading or fogging. The factory seam of the stripe in the middle of rear bumper is present indicating it is original. It has been Zeibart rustproofed at the time of original purchase to the tune of $439 extra. Overkill for a car that was garaged it's whole life. The top appears original and is in great condition but has a couple of small pinch holes on right side. The rear window is somewhat cloudy but bears the 1988 date code further supporting it is an original top. The car shows like a 2 year old 15,000 mile car. The car runs and drives like new. I have a receipt for the Good Year American Eagle tires that were installed in 1999 at WalMart when the car had 33,000 miles. They look very much like the original Gatorbacks and are still in great shape verifying the cars pampered life. Needless to say they ride a little hard considering their age but show no dry rot or cracking. They are great for show because you can't get them anymore! The wheels are the optional 16's and have no damage. The clear coat is checking on them in some places, not very noticable. The AC has been R134 converted in 2001 and works well. In fact everthing works like it should except the radio. The clock works correctly but the radio does not turn on. I verified the power antenna works by applying power to it. The original unmolested engine runs smooth and quiet through the original exhaust system with that nice mellow factory rumble we all love and gets great gas mileage too. It puffs a little blue smoke on startup when the car is warm but I understand these are known for valve seals. It doesn't leak or use any measurable amount of oil, tranny leaves a couple of drops on the tile floor where the car lives in luxury. Those are the only negatives I can find with the drive train. It pulls nicely and chips second gear when I get frisky on the way to a car show or cruise night. They freshly repaved the roads in my town, so I had to try it! The overdrive and lockup converter work seamlessly, it is very relaxed on the highway. I have only put a few hundred miles on the car and loved every one of them. It's a true time machine, but only goes back to the 80's, there really were some good times back then. I have almost 200 pics you can view to get a good feel for the car. http://88iroc.shutterfly.com/pictures/204 Of course I highly recommend viewing the car in person. I am an avid collector and am very picky about my cars. This is a car you could comfortably and reliably use every day with pride and with all the comforts and driveability of a modern car with the vintage IROC drop top look. I only use it for car shows and cruise nights and get lots of favorable comments about the car. You would be hard pressed to find another unmolested survivor this nice for the price I am looking for. Good luck finding ANY survivor collector convertible in this condition especially in this price range. I'm only selling to pursue another collector car and I need the room. I will not reveal reserve and will let auction run. Feel free to contact me for more info. Thanks for looking, and keep on cruising!!!
