Vehicle Detail
I've owned this bike for 2yrs. I also worked at an Airhead specific shop for 2yrs., 10yrs experience as a Small Engine mechanic and 5yrs experience as a Bicycle mechanic. The title I received with the bike stated it had 55,000 on the bike. I've put around 7,000 - 8,000. When I bought the bike it came with the custom metal side racks. They turns the heads of everyone. They can be removed off the original BMW bag frame. It also is the last year of the single sided turn signal switch and older style dashboard. It also will come with a portfolio of the work that has been done. This bike is a question getter and an astonishing machine. From road riding to mountain gaps and the sands of the Pine Barons. I loved the feel and reliability of the bike. But I'm not into riding as much as thought I'd be. I had the tranny out prior and parts to fix it before wanting to sell. But did the work because I enjoy it and don't enjoy selling junk. I have around $3000.00 in parts in the time I've owned this bike. Luggage: Jandd expedition bicycle panniers with rain covers; large waterproof Bob trailer bag. Together, these hold enough for two people to ride comfortably to go camping or touring, tent and all! All the following parts listed, unless specified, are original BMW parts. 7,000 miles ago: double bench seat low cut; heated grips with high and low switch; lockable seat latch; gas tank decals; choke cables; front fender with extension; fork boots; fork seals and oil; handle bars. 4,000 miles ago: timing chain and gears; rotor and brushes; carburetors rebuilt; rebuilt driveshaft replacement with grease fittings. 2,000 miles ago: electronic hall sensor; ignition module; Moto Elektrik diode board; head set bearings; Bridgestone 60 dirt 40 road tires. The next job I set out to do on this bike was to rebuild the transmission and replace the clutch and leaking push rod seals. I checked the compression out of curiosity. It was 140 on the right and 130 on the left. When I opened the engine, it looked like the valves needed some love, so I machine cut and ground the seats in the heads and the valves along with new valve springs and replaced the cylinder rings. The carburetor and air intake boots were worn, so all four of the boots were replaced. When I removed the transmission and the clutch, the rear main seal was leaking. I rebuilt the transmission with new bearings and seals and had the circlip groove cut on the input shaft. The clutch pressure plate and friction disk were replaced along with the rear main seal. While I was in this deep, I disassembled the headlight assembly, and replaced the adjusting mounts so the headlight doesn’t shake anymore. I’ve ridden the bike for approximately1000 miles now and the shifting and power out of the motorcycle is so smooth and alert! I’ve put approximately 60 hours of mechanical work into this motorcycle along with six hours of polishing on each rim. I hope the person purchasing this bike understands the time and essence that have been put into this machine to make it run beautifully and reliably. Please also note plugs, air and fuel filters and all fluids are new. Extras: under seat toolbox; front fender; handle bars (slightly bent); new clutch cable; new throttle cables; used throttle cables; used choke cables; five straight bungee cords; four tie down straps; BMW foot pegs; Kryptonite spoke lock. Known problems: Odometer does not work; front brake squeaks when applied. Payment: PayPal or check; no credit cards. As is. No warranty. Shipping: Will ride and deliver to Vermont, nearby upstate New York, New York City, NJ or Philadelphia. Otherwise, purchaser arranges shipping or pick up. (There are transportation companies online that bid on jobs such as motorcycle shipping.) Find out how much it is to ship and we can talk about cutting some off the price.
