Vehicle Detail
Up for NO RESERVE AUCTION is one heck of a deal today. It is a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sedan with only 65,000 original miles! This car isn't perfect so please read the entire description and ask any questions before you bid. I will be brutally honest with my description so that there will be no suprises when you come to pick up your new car. The bottom line is that someone will get a lot of car for their money with this auction. This would make a perfect first car, college car, commuter car or just a cheap dependable ride. Here we go... On the outside there is some visable damage to three areas. It looks like someone scraped it pretty good on the side. There is a nice sized dent on the passengers side rear door. A little further back, under the tail light, there is a little more of the same. I'm guessing they happened at the same time. I have included close, specific pictures of each. The third is on the rear bumper to the left of the license plate area. There is just some paint missing from the bumper, not torn. Other than these things, the outside is actually pretty nice. There are no other notable scratches or dents. Mechanically the car is sound. It starts up and runs great. The transmission shifts great through all gears. On a sidebar, if you are considering one of these cars you should know that they came with two different automatic transmissions. The basic is a three speed and the optional one was the four speed overdrive. This car is the more desirable four speed transmission. I learned this the hard way and was stuck driving one from Florida to PA without overdrive. The car sounded like it was going to take off and my fuel economy sucked. Like I said, this is a four speed car. Going down the highway at 65mph is only turning the engine at 2,000 rpm's which will give great milage making this a great commuter car! The engine diesn't overheat. There is no smoke...no warning lights are on either. I have documentation of the head gasket already being done which is common with these cars so you don't have to worry about that expense. One time after driving, the belt made a bit of noise but I haven't heard it since. As far as drivability, I just had it to my mechanic to check out a klunking sound when I went over bumps. He said he couldn't really find anything wrong. He reminded me that this isn't a Lexus and told me that the right lower control arm could use a new bushing. Other than that, he said it looks good underneath. The brakes are excellent. The tires all have good tread left. This car drives strait as an arrow. You can let off the wheel and it keeps going strait even under braking! On the inside, the interior is decent and free of any rips or excessive wear. I did notice an odd hole in the rear carpet (drivers rear) under the floor mat. The floor mat hides it and it makes no sense to me but it doesn't really make that much difference. The air conditioner works. The factory stereo actually sounds really good. The blower for the heat and a/c doesn't blow on low for some reason. There isn't much else to talk about on the inside. Overall, this is a lot of car for the money. With only 65,000 miles on it, the next owner should get lots of use out of this car. They are known to be reliable and run close to the 200,000 mile mark. This is the nicer "LS" model which gives it the nicer interior and painted trim. As my mechanic reminded me, this isn't a Lexus. If you want a Lexus or want to enter it in Cavalier shows this probably isn't the car for you. However, if you are looking for a reliable car to put lots of miles on that won't break the bank then this is for you! You will get excellent fuel economy in a nice, comfortable car for not much money. Feel free to ask me any questions about this car. Pre-bid inspections and test drives are welcome and encouraged. I honestly can't think of anything out there that will get you more car for the money than this.
