Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on my prize '78 D100. This truck starts and runs perfect and has never let me down since it was built about 15 years ago. Yes I know .....it looks pretty bad and it needs some work, but it's a great truck. This truck was the result of a bet between me and some buddies of mine. The bet was for each of us to buy a vehicle, get it through state inspection (not private), drive it back and forth to work everyday for a year, then get through state inspection again for no more than $1000 (everything included except insurance and gas). This truck won the bet and went almost another two years before I went over one thousand. I've been fooling around with it as a low buck hobby ever since. I now have my second kid on the way and have to give up some of my hobbies. THE GOOD - The 225 CI super six starts and runs great. It has the correct oil PSI, doesn't smoke or leak. It runs a hotter than stock electronic ignition system and an MSD coil. It has a stock carter 2bbl (rebuilt) with custom linkage brackets for adjustability and response. Uses a manual choke. It has a MOPAR (Direct Connection) high perf. aluminum intake, an Offenhauser aluminum valve cover, 3 plus 3 into 2 balanced headers that dump into 2.5 inch pipes that go into one low restriction Flow Master and exits just behind the cab into a 3 inch turn out. I has a removable restictor in the 3 inch to adjust the sound and back pressure. Most of the hardware on the engine is stainless steel. It does not sound like your typical slant truck. Oh, 1978 is the last year fo NO cat. There is no heat riser or EGR. The truck passes emmisions (state inspection) no problem. Alternator is out of a New Yorker. Seat are out of a '79 Mark V cartier edition. Note: The head and block have not been modified, the cam and valve train are all stock. The transmission is a 4 speed with 4th being an overdrive. The Hust shifter works well, however, I switched the linkage on 3rd and 4th around to get the shifter out from over my cup of coffee when in 4th. It still shifts great, but 3rd and 4th are switched. You can switch them back if you don't drink coffee. This truck had no transmission when I got it, so I made it how I wanted it. It gets incredible fuel milage in overdrive. (around 25 mpg) The rear is out of an automatc. Higher ratio for better milage. All the brakes on the this truck (every last part except the baking plates for the rear drums) has been replaced including the lines. The tinted windsheild is new, The stereo is an old sony Explode cassete. It Works and sounds good. Has 4 speakers. This truck uses 4.5 on 5 lug pattern. The skinnier the tires, the better the gas millage. I currently has 10 inch wide Basset DOT approved rear rims and a set of slightly used BF Goodrich 50's. The rims are custom offset to fill up the fender well but not stick out. You,ll have to get matching set for the front...they're cheap. If you don't want them, I will take $100 off the price of the truck. The fronts are off another vehicle of mine and I must keep. When I got the truck the cab was pretty rusty, so I swapped in a rust free '85 cab, which is still pretty good. It has '85 power brakes and heater box. I has the '78 dashboard. Some '78 parts are hard to get because they get bought up by the 'lil Red Express' guys. THE BAD - The reason the truck failed inspection is because of the electric doors. It had shaved doors and solonoid openers. I worked on them for years and they've always been problematic. NJ inspection doesn't like them and told me they won't pass them anymore. So the truck needs doors as they are getting too rusty now anyway. The mirrors are panoramic off a Yamaha. I made the mounts. The front end needs to be replaced...pretty much everything but the lower control arms and spindles. Parts for this truck are dirt cheap. Right now one of the front coils is broken so the truck shouldn't be driven. The rest is rusty and not worth saving. It handles great with fresh front end. The starter. The solonoid sticks sometimes. It works, but needs to come out and be fixed. The heater controls. There is a switch in the glove box to blast the defroster which is about all you need because the cab is small. The controls need some work. The rear wheel openings have been repaired several times and need it again or just replace the bed if you can find one. I finally found a old style tailgate. It needs some work but fixable. The fenders are fixable as is the right rocker. The new rocker panel comes with the truck. All extra tail lights and other parts come with the truck. Yes, I have the other door panel and it's in good shape. I think that's everything, but I'll answer any questions. Sold AS IS - WHERE IS.
