Vehicle Detail

When will it be time to treat yourself? Life is short; make your own fun by owning this beautifully designed and superbly maintained MG Sports Car! Read on.... Up for bid is a 1977 model year MGB, enigine number 18V885AEL464. This car, as all other MG's of this vintage, was manufactured in Abingdon, UK and this one has spent its life here in the Southeastern U.S. It's a solid and sound classic! In 1976 I purchased my first British Sports Car, a brand new, off the showroom floor MGB, red, of course. I drove it for years. Ever since then, I have enjoyed ownership of these little gems. That is correct; I have never been without one since then! I find them to be both practical and fun, a blast to drive and a great way to meet folks who are simply intrigued by the design or who have also been enjoying the experience. Upkeep is well within reason, and they, at this age, qualify for collector car insurance; generally 50 to 100 dollars annually! As a fan, owner, “hobbyist” and admirer of all things “MG”, I am convinced that this is also a very low mileage car. All of the "tell tale" signs point to this: light to moderate wear in the typical places, existing originality and factory parts, are all clues which suggest that the odometer numbers are correct. As you review the photos of this MG, keep in mind that there is not a drop of “Armor-all” or equivalent silicone enhancing polish on the car. Having owned these for so long, I have learned that while these products do provide a nice, flattering “shimmer” for photos, at the same time, they deteriorate rubber, plastic and vinyl. Please understand also that a great deal of maintenance has been done to this B, in order to keep her looking pretty and humming along. Here are a few examples: Updated Weber Downdraft Carb – Provides modern day reliability, with automatic choke – starts on the first turn of the key. Replaced wires, distributor and plugs, even installed a Lucas Sport Coil – engine performs exceptionally well; these steps were not even likely needed. Upgraded seating to Miata buckets – Nothing inherently wrong with MG seats, however this upgrade provides noticeable improvement in side to side support and comfort. The seats are in beautiful shape to boot. Of course, seat belts were replaced as well. Recently repainted – Although lots of MG’s are refreshed with paint, few that I have found look this good. I have tried to depict this quality in the photos however, I will confidently state that this is one of those unusual situations where the car actually looks better than the pictures suggest! Upgraded exhaust system; front to back. Sounds great, but if you’re looking for “loud” this is not it. Just an appropriate “note” common to nicely tuned British classics. New “boot” cover to provide the finished look when the top is down! Full Car Cover to keep dust and dirt from the finish. Nobody likes to wash cars every week-end! Additional items to consider: Suspension, all shocks, springs, spacers, bushings, rebound straps are original type and are working properly. No surprises. Headlights, turn signals, gauges, dash lights….all in order. All lubrication points have been attended to including the steering rack, front end, drive shaft AND transmission oil replacement. The interior of the car is beautifully simple and original. I almost never see this lack of wear on a dash face or gauges; console parts and elsewhere inside. Bumpers are in unusually Excellent condition. Another indicator that the car has been not only well maintained, but sparingly driven. Sound system has been upgraded to a new Sony FM/CD unit with two wonderfully sounding speakers. Tires were recently replaced with properly sized/profiled radials; they feel great (Solid Michelin spare included) Battery AND alternator were replaced within 500 miles of driving. For those who may have owned British sports cars in the past please note that this B runs cool all the time; meaning, no hint of overheating. I have left the car to idle on these 90+ degree days for long periods, driven it routinely in traffic, and have motored up onto the Interstate at speeds in excess of 80 mph with no issues whatsoever. In summary, this is not a smelly, rusty, smoky old MG, (not that I haven’t owned a number of cars with these characteristics). This is however, a “plug and play”, great driving and great looking, clean MG, without the often found amateur modifications, rusty panels and “scotch taped” repairs. Note that there are two small paint bubbles on the hood, which are not an indication of rust; simply defects in paint preparation. I was not able to get them into these photos. Your neighbors and friends, even strangers, (usually under the age of 30), will be inquiring as to “what kind of car” you are driving! I would have no problem driving this B anywhere. I recommend that you carefully review the photos, contact me if you would like me to provide more, and do feel free to ask questions. My home phone number will be provided if you desire; I would love to chat with you. Shipping of this MG will be the buyer’s responsibility, although I am happy to be available in order to meet a transporter and see that the car gets on it way. I am located one hour north of the Atlanta (ATL) airport, so flying in and driving home is a possibility. A Georgia Title and Bill of Sale are in hand. In case you are curious, the reserve price is set at a very (very) reasonable level. This will be one mega-deal for someone! You will not see many B’s in this shape anywhere near this price. Have fun with the bidding!!
