Owned by well to do family from an affluent area north of Baltimore, it was originally traded on a Mini Cooper . It's a really solid car that I've driven several hundred miles in the last week. Dependable, solid, safe. No problems whatsoever. 100 PICTURES BELOWIts the highly sought after non turbo version of the diesel made in the mid 90's. Unbelievably strong and dependable , these cars will go 500,000+ miles on the same engine. They actually will. In addition to durabilty and strength, the car is also known for being very safe. Another point with this engine is terrrific (diesel ) fuel economy. They burn so liittle fuel. reports indicate highay fuel distances as high as 32 to 35 miles per gallon highway. Truely amazing performance. Outstanding for such a roomy solid, lux car. The car originally came from the owners with the engine and engine compartment both amazingly clean, we didn't need to do our normal steam procedure to clean anything. Rare that its that clean. And by the way, 230Kmiles is "no miles " on this car. Nothing in the life of this engine. Nothing or not much for a car designed to go 500K miles. In my online research about these special cars here's what one 1995 E 300 Diesel owner said about his car in terms of an owner endorsement . Its copied verbatum. Mind you, printed below, this is HIS testimony from several years ago, about HIS CAR, not mine. Clearly, his car was in exceptional shape ...nicer than ours here at auction. Nevetheless, his comments are instructive and illustarte the amazing quaklity and engineering of these cars. " 1995 E300 Diesel by vrathore: Written: May 15 '03 - Updated May 16 '03 Recommended: Yes Pros: Beautiful Styling, Smooth Ride, Great Gas Mileage Cons: No cup holders, no fold down rear seat and no traditional glovebox The Bottom Line: Buy it, use it and plan on keeping it as a family heirloom. They are hard to find, but if you find one in good condition they will last forever. This car is absolutely perfect. It looks great, rides incredibly smooth, gives 35 MPG and goes about 700 miles between fueling stations. In town Driving: Smooth ride that absorbs even the most annoying potholes or speed bumps. Incredibly tight turning circle, easily make U-turns just about anywhere or squeeze into tight parking spots. The visibility in this car is great with no blind spots and an A/C system which is ice cold. Highway driving: Very smooth, firm, quiet ride with tight steering control and excellent feel. The key here is good tires. When replacing MB tires, stick with OEM Michelin or Continental tires, they are quieter and smoother than the Pirelli's or other brands, but thats another Epinion. Traction: Wet & Snow traction is awesome thanks to the ASD. I'm not sure exactly what it stands for, but what it does is that anytime slippage is detected, it automatically locks the differential and turns both wheels simultaneously at the same speed and lights up a triangular light in the instrument cluster warning you of slippery conditions. There is also a variant known as ASR which also makes that to work in conjunction with the ABS braking system that help control all 4 wheels using brakes and the locking differential that is available on newer models. But ASD works great helping me get up my steep driveway even in the snowiest of conditions. I honestly cannot think of anything I don't like about the car other than the fact that there are no cupholders, no fold down rear seat for long objects and there is no traditional glovebox. There is a lockable cubby in the center console which holds stuff, but it is too small to hold the owners manual. And I use the ashtray as a change box. Other niceties included in this car that I love include: Real (not that fake stuff) Zebrano Wood interior trim, comfortable seats made of MBTex, leather like comfort but far more durable and easy to clean. Leather is fine too, but I've seen MB Tex that is 25 years old and shows little wear. If you've got kids, I'd prefer the MBTex over Leather. Lighted door bottoms so you can see where you're stepping, single windshield wiper that cleans more than most two wiper systems, AM/FM/Casette/6disc CD changer with 5 speakers (awesome) and things like automatic window/sunroof closing & window opening when you lock or unlock the car (and hold the key for a few seconds). Many of these luxuries can be found in newer luxury cars but this was all there back in 1995 and it all works extremely well. The biggest drawback is that with such great gas mileage in a luxury car that hardly requires fueling, the concept of buying an SUV (which I would love to have) or any other car for that matter is not appealing as who wants to spend time or money fueling it up. As it stands now, I refuel about once every two weeks for ~$50 a month. The car replaced my 1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6 with an inline gas 6 cylinder engine. If one would compare the two, the diesel is slightly noisier but just as smooth. In fact, many of my friends had not realized that the car was a diesel. But if you've spent any time in Europe, you will notice that diesel engines have come a long way. You will also notice that nearly every taxi cab in Europe is a Mercedes Diesel, that's because they drive them for 600,000 km (around town) before the engines need any major work. This car does not have the diesel smoke or smell and has great pick-up (thanks to direct injection and 4 valves per cylinder) even at highway speeds. The ride is a little soft for a sport sedan, but nonetheless very controlled. With traction control, anti-lock brakes, multiple airbags I feel incredibly safe. And don't forget, this car is a Mercedes Benz, built like no other car in the world! Amount Paid (US$): 32000.00 Condition: Used Model Year: 1995 Model and Options: E300 Diesel Recommended: Yes Reliability: Roominess: Seat Comfort: Build Quality That ( above ) was the user report of a satsified E 300 diesel owner printed online at a review site, just for the sake of a generic E300 Diesel commentary, NOT our particular car. 100 PICTURES BELOW Now back to our particular car : The engine is rock solid. Ultra smooth . Starts super easily . No smoke whatsoever. None. No leaks either. Underside is clean and dry as a bone . Car is also qiuiet, unlike the older noisier diesels. Adaquate , but modest pick up off the line. The car particualrly shines at top end speed. Smooth, stable , solid and sturdy. A real rock on the road. Transmisson is fine. No hint of any problem at all. Brakes are fine . Tires are Micheliins on front.Goodyears on back . Ok tread, but not great . The interoir is sumptuous naturally . Great seats, carpets, headliner and dash. Wood inlays, . A rerpair on the arm rest that doesn't show in the pictures. Alpine after market CD player and tuner. Three issues inside: Dual power seats on both driver and passnenger side (driver seat switch is broken on the tilt upright back section; otherwise the back and forth and platform tilt are fine.) (Conmfortable as is. )Also, AC is not cold. Driver window goes up to 3/4 inch of top and does a ratta tat tat sound as the final inch of gear teeth appear to be stipped stripped. Window motor and switch seem fine. Can be pushed up manually I think. Tommorrow morning we will have our man try to charge the AC and make it cold for you. Hopefuly he'll simply solve the problem .No guranttee, but he'll try No charge to you whatsoever. He'll fully charge it if possible. . Should he not be able to charge it for whatever reason, we'll deduct $100 off the Buy it Now or winning bid. The underside is near perfect . No sign of rust whatsoever underneath. In fact it looks like the underside was coated in one of those expensive Ziebart type coatings to protect it. Exhaust sounds good. Appears newish and fresh from the end, most of the way back towards the front. Cosmetically, its certainly a good looking car , but you need to know that the owner's indicated there were several places where surface rust had been repaired in the past . They said these spots were near the window, on the edge back of the door and on the passenger side door itself . Looking for them I could see paint imperfections in those areas. No big deal, but it needs mentioned. One untreated small bubble on door. Not hateful looking certainly , but you need to know the history and you need to be ok with that fact. Two other cosmetic issues- One area under the left front bumper cover where a silly jury-rigged repair was done to mask a break in the lower bumper cover. (several pictures ). One marker light lens on the blinker is missing. BUY IT NOW: If you want to Buy It Now….In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it for the eBay sale.
