Vehicle Detail
1974 MG B MGB Mk3 BRITISH LEYLAND CONVERTIBLE 4Spd. RED Presented here is a 1974 MGB MK3, painted Ford bright red with a new black interior. This car comes with a custom fiberglass removable hardtop (black on the outside and white on the inside) as well as a black soft top. A roll bar has been added along with custom wheels typical of those used on MGB’s in the 1970’s to give this car more of a race car style. This car has been garaged and seldom driven for the last 15 years and has had the carburetors, fuel pump, and brakes rebuilt about a year ago by a professional British car restoration shop in Salado, Texas. The brake and clutch master cylinders and the clutch slave cylinder and flexible hose have all been replaced within the last 4 months with brand new (not rebuilt) parts. The front suspension was rebuilt and painted black about 10 years ago. The 1974 model year was the last year for the desirable chrome bumpers with the lower suspension. The plastic bumpers were added in late 1974 and the car suspension was raised about 1.5 inches to help the bumpers work better (but that did not help the cornering ability of the later cars). The mechanic remarked that this car is amazingly rust free. Part of that is due to the entire underbody being undercoated—this may have been done at the British Leyland because the fuel lines and electrical lines under the car do not have the undercoating on them. The 1,798cc four cylinder engine has the 2 SU stock side draft carburetors and a complete replacement exhaust system in the original MGB style, except that a chrome tip has been added for a little more flash! The stock muffler and exhaust system gives the car the expected British exhaust note—sweet! The engine starts and runs very well, putting its phenomenal(!) 95 hp to the rear wheels through a standard 4 speed transmission. This auction includes four MGB steel wheels that were original to this car—see photos. This car does need a new soft top and a new radio and the right fender has 3 areas where something dripped on the fender and changed the paint color to a slightly lighter red. But if you are looking for an MGB that is rust free and has had most of the mechanicals and interior replaced, then please consider this car and don’t wait to place your bid!!!
