Vehicle Detail

This is an exceptional low mileage 1972 BMW Bavaria spending most of its life under single ownership in Santa Barbara, California. When the original elderly owner was unable to drive, Coupeking (Peter S.) offered the car for sale. I purchased the car from him in 2005 with approximately 33,000 miles showing on the odometer. As the pictures show, the car was well kept throughout the years. It does have a few nicks and imperfections, but is likely one of the lowest mileage BMW Bavaria's still around. Coupeking offered that the driver's door and fender had some shopping cart dings repaired in the distant past (though not by him) but that the car wore most of its original paint. The interior is perfectly original -- no cracks in the dash -- no upholstery flaws, etc. The engine is original and unmodified. It runs exceptionally well. The brake calipers were rebuilt at some point in the past and regular maintenance was performed throughout the years. I installed ceramic coated headers which match up to the stock exhaust system -- the exhaust note is still very stock sounding. Also installed was a limited slip differential from a European 635csi (3,07:1). Coupled with the stock 4-speed, the car has 'long legs', with 4th. gear acting as an overdrive. The rear subframe has camber-adjustable eccentrics which compliment the height-adjustable Bilstein shocks and fully adjustable rear sway bar. The front sway bar is similarly over-sized -- the car handles very well. The stereo and rear speakers appear to be a relics of the 70's. Also note the original oil filters in the trunk caddy -- original spare tire and unrusted spare tire well! All said, the car starts, stops and runs like you would expect from a low mileage vintage BMW. I'm sure the original owner never intended the car to be any sort of time capsule object -- she just drove the car short distances and this accounts for the unusually high state of preservation and low mileage. I do have some of the early (if not all) service documents, owner's manual and many of the original parts that I replaced (steering wheel, radiator, belts, thermostat, exhaust manifolds, etc.) Also note the original front and rear BMW roundels! The rear one is starting to fade a bit, but both are 'raised' and original to the car -- not reproductions! Also local are several BMW shops should you desire a pre-purchase inspection. And of course you can contact Peter at Coupeking.com, but please only do so if you are serious about purchasing -- he always has a full plate in front of him. As always, remember that this is a 30 year old car and it is not perfect. It has never been restored, but has had a few door and fender dings repaired -- most importantly though, it has no rust issues and never has. There are a few corrosion spots from proximity to the coast only. Good luck bidding!
