West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional and beautiful example of this original southern California car, an original factory 'Baby Blue" paint with original 'Custom Striping' 1979 classic Volkswagen Beetle Convertible with only 109K original miles! Absolutely no rust or accidents whatsoever and obviously always well maintained and looked after! Purchased from original southern California owner by only second southern California owner neighbor in 6/2008 with original owners manuals, warranty and maintenance bookelts, original window sticker and original dealer's invoice for $9,216 on 6/19/1979 from 'Rusnak Volkswagen' of Culver City, California and all original maintenance records. The car has it's original 1.6L 4 cylinder air cooled engine with electronic fuel injection, 4 speed manual transmission, electrically heated rear window, four wheel independent suspension, dual outside mirrors, bucket seats, leatherette covered sport steering wheel, woodgrain dash applique, sun visors, headrests, Quartz Crystal clock, rack and pinion steering, Coco floor mats and has a manufacturer's estimated mileage of only 22MPG city. The car was always primarily dealer and VW specialist serviced, first at 'Rusnak Volkswagen' of Culver City and in later years at 'Volkswagen Santa Monica' of Santa Monica, California, etc and the car has an extensive and thick file of service records dating back to 1979 and includes all the original California registrations for the car. From looking at this file of records it is obvious that at no time was any expense spared on this particular car's preventive maintenance - literally thousands and thousands of dollars spent over the years to keep this car running as new! All early Beetle type 1 cabriolet ragtops are eminently collectible to VW enthusiasts, with the 1979 last year versions being obviously the most desirable. Karmann of Osnabruck carried out the assembly work including installation of the typically Teutonic folding top. When buttoned up, the convertible was as tight and quiet as the sedan thanks to it's thick 'sandwich' top construction and glass (not plastic) rear window. When folded down, the top created an enormous 'bustle', giving the car a look like that of no other! By 1979, the last year Beetle convertibles had become quite expensive in the U.S. owing to inflation and the relative value of the dollar versus the deutsche mark. Therefore these will no doubt continue to command the highest collector prices as time goes on as 'the last of the line' models. Ultimately, the VW ragtop is an automobile with permanent and timeless appeal; a piece of motor history that you can drive everyday! This car must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - the engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent, the 4 speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, including reverse, the car brakes and steers great and the engine temperature always remains cool. The car has very striking and highly desirable original 'Baby Blue' factory paint with original factory custom striping, relatively new condition off-white soft top and gorgeous condition black interior with woodgrain applique! Remember - Cars are only original once and this must be one of the finest daily driving example's available of this very collectible and highly desirable last year of production completely original 1979 VW Classic Beetle convertible in this highly desirable original color combination - a beautifully looked after and maintained example with no rust whatsoever with only 109K original miles in rare turn-key ready daily appreciating, daily driving and daily head-turning condition of an all time legendary classic car!
