(I've heard about them for years , but this is the first and only XR-2 interchangeable with both Hard Top and Convertible Top I've every seen - where you actually get both the hard top and soft top included .) This is a terrific little car . (It’s definitely not perfect of course, but without doubt, the nicest Capri I've ever seen. I think you'll agree that almost everything about this car speaks of the owner's real care, concern, and interest in the car. The relatively expensive tires, the upgraded sharp paint, the near immaculate leather seats, the rare holding stand for the hard top, the nearly flawless body etc etc And its a blast to drive. VERY, nice shape. This one was almost certainly owned by "an adult " as opposed to a "kid". The care, refinement and detailed effort in upkeep is obvious. It seesm fresh, well loved and cared for and still vital. [Again, I don't want to overstate the case, it has a few flaws .... but very, very, very nice]. And of course its a Capri. the legendary Ford of Australia car with the incredible innovative engineering , the durabuility and multiple special features. {research Capri on line ) My "Capri expert" aquaintance tells me the following this one is a rare car-: "In1993 there were 2872 Capri units produced. About 450 were the XR-2 model. (This guy is amazing.- - - He's one of the foremost authorities on Capris and XR2's in the country ) He further says that of those 450, there were only approx 50 Capris made in red. Of just those 50 single cars , only about 10 of those XR2's had the leather seats package like this one. [I'll turn you on to this fellow if you win.. and if you're interested . He's super pleasant, and as an older, retired fellow is very generous with his time helping "consult " with folks who own and love Capris. He's a Capri nut himself.(Smile ) He knows everything about them. Everything. ) Drive -wise: I’ve probably driven it now about 200 miles over the last 4 or 5 days . Great in every way. The engine is the standard Capri 4 cylinder with turbo charger These are incredibly durable engines. Not hugely powerful like a muscle car...but durable, durable, durable . The same fellow above referenced has over has 260,000 miles on his daily driver Capri and its going strong . The engine’s in this one is the same fine machinery. Quiet. Smooth. The turbo works fine too. And it came it very clean under the hood. Transmission is fine. Clutch is fine . Brakes are fine. At highway speeds, the car is smooth, tracks well, and handles well. Premium sound factory radio. (The nicest you could get in a Capri in its day )(though I must confess, it seems like just a radio to me. )Nothing fancy, but serviceable. Power windows and mirrors. The tires are realtively expensive semi lo pro tires. Rare wheels with the even more rare matching red inlaid stripe. Nice looking . 50+ % or so tread remaining. It does "pick up” well (unlike a lot of the tiny little convertibles with the small 4 cylinder motors that struggle to accelerate. ) When that turbo kicks in at the upper part of the rev cycle its satisfying for sure. Its peppy for sure, but in no way is anything even close muscle car. The Interior is way nice . I've never seen a Capri with such gorgeous putty colored rich leather seats. Really nice . Condition of the material is pretty fresh looking. Nice condition. One very minor wear mark on the left elbow spot. Carpets excellent. The storage in the trunk is , clean and original looking . It does have AC , but its not cold. Not sure why. (Hey, its a convertible ! Who needs AC in a convertible anyway!!) One thing you notice about the car - the little wider wheel stance gives a stabler, more roadable , quality feel. Great in the curves . The corners is where a this car really shines. One of the other things you immediately notice - is that this is a super sharp looking car.Very good looking. . Maybe not "show room - mint great" but still excellent . Very sharp looking and well cared for . The paint is very bright, clean fresh and new looking. I'm pretty sure its had new paint at some popint to keep looking like this - otherwise it wouldn't look so good . [The paint on red cars tends to oxidize at a faster rate than other colors ] Generally good shine with a just a tiny little e fade around the conveetrtible top edge. Few if any scratches. Looks like its been consistently waxed . Regarding the paint and photos - Please note this is an excellent looking car. When our young "techi" was choosing and editing the Capri photos for this auction, he adjusted some of the digital photos to correct for too light or too dark ...and in the process, inadvertently created some odd distortion of the otherwise beautiful red color. That odd blackish dark swirl lines seen in a few pictures exists only in those few pictures. The paint itself on the csar in reality is beautiful. - [thanks for understanding ] The body itself is also excellent - especially for this year and model. Angles and seams very tight, plumb , and right. I can remenmber only one egg size ding on the nose on front otherwise a solid A- . No rust whatsoever. Body very strraight, None of that tell tale mal-alignmnet of panels and parts. Several places on the bumper covers with paint stress marks underneath that look like they were touch painted in a shop. Over all, way way above avareage. The overall visual Affect is VERY STRONG. Good looking. The other good part of the car - the convertible top itself is almost flawless.The materiasl is black vinyl that looks practically brand new.The mechanical components of the top are fine. The top itself is dark black, supple, tight and in great shape. The only complaint issue is the rear plastic window really should be replaced if you're picky (though, its totally fine left as is ) . It has 2 small cuts in it and shows discoloration. Top moves up and down correctly . Its manual mechanical movement which is good . I put it up with a second person helping on the other side. [No convertible electric top motor problems which are common in other brands of convertibles and often expensive to fix ]. Simple and functional. One thing you do need to know is the right side handle for the convertible top release lever is broken. It works, but requires employing a little carpenter's pinch bar (included !) to open it. It's do-able with some effort but annoying . Id' repace it soon. . The other day with the top down ...whew was it fun. More fun and exciting than i even expected. [ why did i think people were looking at me as if i was some young cool guy ? (forget it, i'm not ). anyway...Great fun. Theres also a small exhaust leak ( I mean small ) somewhere towards the front .( Very minor )noticable, so I have to mention it, but its scarely an issue . Inludes the Capri Signiture house hold stand for storing the hard top in your garage in the summer months when you're riding it as a convertible BUY IT NOW:If you want to Buy It Now….In the interest of selling it quickly I’ve reduced it for the eBay sale.
