Vehicle Detail
I bought this bike from the second owner just this spring. I have ridden on and off all my life and thought I would like to try some long distance rides. However my wife has little or no interest in long rides so it is going to go. I have never owned a touring bike before so I will do my best to give a fair and accurate description. When i bought the bike the previous owner included the service records and I cant seem to find them anywhere. I called him and he gave me the following list. These were the items that were done last spring just before him and his wife rode the bike on a Lake Superior circle tour. 1. Timing Belt 2. Fork Seals (i did notice a tiny bit of oil near one of the seals....cleaned it up and haven't seen anything since) 3. Stator ( he said that was a spendy one!!) 4. Complete tune up, new plugs, carbs cleaned, oil change, and complete inspection The bike runs fantastic and really is a pleasure to ride. The only things I'm aware of that needs attention are the aftermarket cruise...it doesn't work. I traced the wiring and found a blown fuse , I replaced it but it still didn't work. After a little more chasing i believe the problem to be in the main switch on the handlebars. The front windshield trim is a chrome piece off of a 1984 aspencade. The original one was aluminum but the original owner put a few dings in it when replacing the windshield and then made it worse by trying to straighten it himself. I found the chrome one on ebay and replaced it. I still have the original and you can find the originals on ebay as well. i liked the chrome. The previous owner told me that the speakers in the stereo were poor quality......they are....however the problem he described wasn't the speakers. The stereo has electronic speed control....as you go faster the stereo gets louder and as you go slower it gets quieter. When idling it sounds like it has a bad ground.....static with the music.....but when you get moving and the electronic speed control kicks in it sounds great! The tires are about 75%. The seat is in as new condition. The original owners guide and tool kit are complete and in tact. This bike is nearly perfect. When I bought it I bought it sight unseen....my brother in law went to look at it and called me. He told me i could search the country and wouldn't find a bike half this clean for twice the money. Ive seen them sell for quite a bit on ebay....REST ASSURED MY RESERVE IS VERY LOW. I put 1000 miles on the bike since mothers day weekend worry free. If I was going to be taking some several hundred mile rides I would keep it. Its nearly perfect. I did add the rear floorboards because my wife said that the foot pegs didn't seem substantial enough to feel comfortable. She loves the floorboards. Like everyone else i have a number in mind that would be ideal.....its a good bit more than my reserve but if it hits I'm throwing in two brand new with tags leather jacket Men XL and Woman's L...also two pairs of riding chaps with tags same sizes and 2 brand new helmets men XL and woman's S. This bike is an INTERSTATE not an Aspencade. It does have air ride suspension but it is filled manually not with an on board compressor. I would get on this bike and ride it anywhere right now. As a matter of fact if my "number" is hit i will ride it to you anywhere within 300 miles of 49783 at no charge to you and I will be responsible for my own return transportation. If you have any question please feel free to ask....i will check my inbox regularly.
