I purchased this 1998 S-10 7 years ago for my friend Steve, who at the time had been diagnosed with cancer and was wanting to sell his then almost new 2002 S-10 Crew Cab 4X4. As a used car dealer and whoIsaler at the time, I sold Steve's '02 S-10 for him and found him this '98 S-10. His thought at the time was that his cancer was terminal and he may not have much time left. He wanted to dispose of some of his more valuable possessions to make things easier for his sisters and family if he passed. His plan was that he would leave this S-10 to his young nephew as a nice first vehicle. The good news is that after surgery, a long recovery and some treatments, he is in total remission. About a year and a half ago, Steve decided it was time he start to enjoy himself and what he worked hard for in his life and wanted a newer car again. I found him an almost new Chevy HHR and he traded his now beloved S-10 back in to me on that vehicle. He did ask me to wait to sell it though, in case he changed his mind and wanted his lil truck back! I have driven this S-10 some since that time and have found it to be a very surprisingly dependable and economical vehicle that is enjoyable to drive. When I first purchased this S-10 for steve, it was a 1-owner truck with low miles and a fresh trade-in at the Chevy dealership that had sold it new. I knew the Sales Manager there and he sold me this truck. Now with still very low miles of only 87,000 this truck is in almost the same condition it was when I first bought it 7 years ago. Maybe even better considering it has only had an average of less than 6,000 miles a year put on it since then and has been superbly maintained by both of it's previous owners. Steve would change the oil, filters and have any other neccesary services performed at the beginning of each season (4 times a year) and never had more than 2,000 miles on it between each oil change. It was also detailed twice a year completely before and after each winter season. The tires (which replaced the originals when Steve first bought it) have about a third of tread left. The only thing found not currently working during our inspection on the truck are the reverse lights. It has been smoked in, but doesn't smell like it, however it does have a few burns on the drivers door interior panel, carpet and seat. Other wise it is very clean and in far better than average condition. I will have it freshly serviced for it's new owner before it's picked up. The truck comes equipped with the 2.2 Litre (2200 series) 4 cylinder engine, 5 Speed manual transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes w/ rear anti lock feature, Power Windows, Power Door Locks with Remote Keyless Lighted Entry System and Factory Alarm. Cruise Control, Tilt steering, Factory AM/FM Stereo Cassette Player, Aluminum Alloy Wheels and Deep Tinted Rear Glass. The air conditioning works and blows very cold. It is the LS Decor Package. It also comes with an aluminum topper with key if you'd like it? and has had a Penda-liner in the box since new. The topper is black aluminum and looks like maybe a garge door came down on it, or maybe someone sat at the end of it (see photos). I have driven this truck myself about 2,500 miles the past year and a half and have averaged almost 24 MPG. Steve said he had once gotten 28 MPG on a Highway trip to his sisters house, and I believe it! I have recently divorced and am buying a new house and have to move my collection of classic cars and really don't have room for this sweet 12 year old truck to go along.
