For sale is a rare 1981 Pontiac Trans Am convertible. It is my understanding that Pontiac had approximately 200 trans ams converted to convertables and then sold as new at the dealerships back in the late 70's and early 80's. This conversion was performed by Elan Convertibles Ltd. back in 1981. I've only seen a few second generation TA convertibles over the years and I think this is about the nicest I have seen. The engine is the original 4.9L V8 with an automatic transmission. Car runs and shifts great. I feel comfortable driving it anywhere. The body is in good shape. New black paint and decals were put on two years ago. I had the floor pans professionally repaired when I had new carpet installed (also two years ago). At that time, the only visible rust was on the pans and it was repaired by welding in new steel. The frame rails were reinforced as should be when converted to a convertible. Brakes were redone two years ago. Wheels and tires still in good shape. The interior is in very good condition. Only very minor issues such as a crack in the IP (I use a carpeted IP cover); power locks do not work; and the voltage gage does not work. I have installed a CD player and will include the original radio. The convertible top is only a few years old. It uses the orginal framework. The top snaps into place and is easy to take up or down. Top has some gaps around the windows, but is still functional and has never been an issue. Overall a very nice car that is always a big hit at car shows or just cruising around. Only very minor things if you wanted perfection. Car can be driven and enjoyed the way it is. You don't these too many of the second generation trans am convertibles. Car can be driven anywhere. I did my best to briefly describe the vehicle. However, there is no warranty, so I highly recommend viewing the car before purchasing to make sure you get what you want.
