Vehicle Detail
PONTIAC GTO – THE GREAT ONE! The fabulous Pontiac GTO. The Great One. Never has been, never will be another one like it. The 1968 was, and is, one of the most sought after of all motor cars. The 68 GTO was Motor Trends Car of the Year. It pioneers the Endura front end and gets a shot of Ram Air adrenalin. New inside - New outside - New wider Wide-Track - New disappearing wipers - New twin-scooped hood - New padded dash with wood-grain paneling - New front shoulder belts. The Great One was back in 1968. The 60's were the craziest of times and of cars. All of Detroit's Woodward Avenue was a race track. I was honored to be part of this incredible time. Take just a minute and go back to one of those Saturday nights so long ago. The car to beat was Pontiac, especially a Royal GTO. The GTO was conceived in Bloomfield Hills, born in Pontiac and raised in Royal Oak. What connects these three towns is Woodward Avenue, the drag strip for Detroit's area drag racers. We gathered at Ted's Drive-in, harrumphed through the parking lot, the big stick loping, stabbing the throttle to clear the carbs and then after picking an opponent we hit the lights on Woodward. Quarter miles were marked off and........... The whole layout was a wonderful dream, and in Royal Oak, in the middle of it all was Royal Pontiac, the hottest dealership in the United States. People traveled from all over the country just to see the place -- it was a shrine! Its theme was all about performance and speed. It sold new Pontiac's and performance parts, and it marketed various Bobcat kits which made Pontiacs into real stormers. A kit was available for just $70. For a membership fee of $3.00 one received a membership card, two window decals and a Royal Pontiac license-plate frame......By the way, Detroit's Woodward Avenue was the first street in America to be paved. Countless hours were spent cruising Ted's, Woodward and Royal Pontiac. We ate hotdogs, shrimp and drank root beer. The best of all was trying to burn up a set of bias tires and part of Woodward’s pavement on a Saturday night. Yes, every single light was a drag strip. Well, memories are made of this, gone but not forgotten. The car offered here lives on, as fresh and ready as ever. It is the right car… at the right price. The deal of the century. Notice the original Royal Pontiac license plate cover. It is worth its weight in gold. I will do all that I can to show you this car from every angle. Many of the pictures are too close up to be beautiful, but I wanted you to see it this way. This Pontiac was lovingly cared for by its owner for 20 years. He built it, tinkered with it for thousands of hours and created a wonderful motorcar. Let me name just a few of the award winning tasks he performed. He removed the wiper arms, restored them and then hand polished them to perfection. He did the same with the original wheel well moldings. The original door edge guards also go with the car. Where do you find a car where its owner pays so much attention to detail? This is a real four speed car - 455/462 with 66 factory Tri-Power - Edelbrock aluminum heads - Hooker headers - Ross Pistons - Eagle rods - balanced assembly - Be Cool radiator - dual electric fans - MSD - Center force clutch, pressure plate and flywheel - 3:55 10 bolt posi - Southside Boxed control arms and American Racing wheels. It is a 462.The entire engine compartment was serviced and spit polished clean after every run or cruise. The entire engine and engine compartment is just as I found it. All I did was dust it off. With all of its power it is a best of best cruiser. It handles like a dream come true. It behaves nicely on city streets or the open road. The under side is clean and dry, original and speaks loudly for the rest of the car. There is no rust, patches or cover ups. Please notice the heavy duty drive shaft. The exterior is bright and beautiful. Forty-two years have come and gone since this Pontiac rolled off the assembly line, and almost 15 years have passed since the car was professionally restored. The job was done right and it was a finished job. Nothing was left undone Nothing is perfect, but the car looks, runs and handles just like it should. The flaws are few and far between. The body is arrow straight. The hood, deck lid, doors and all factory seams are in wonderful condition. All of the panels line up correctly. The odometer was zeroed back. The car has been driven just 6000 miles since its rebirth. The interior is almost as new, spectacular in every way. I will not attempt to describe it. Please study the pictures, they are close up and detailed. This is a remove your shoes interior. The add on gages light up and function properly. The original tach works like it should. THE ORIGINAL DELCO RADIO STILL CRANKS OUT THE SOUNDS OF THE 60's. No dirty, stained or worn seat belts here. They are just about like new. All of the interior is as nice as they get. The best of Pontiac's -- A true muscle car. As exciting as a most beautiful lady or handsome gentleman. The sights and sounds if the 60's is mostly gone, one of rolling thunder, knowing that under the hood lies hundreds of horses ready for any kind of action The look, the fun and the feeling of reliving history, just imagined by most. Not many under $25,000 cars come even close to this quality. Not many out there in any price range. Don't miss your opportunity to own it. TAKE HOME THE GREAT ONE. The best to you and yours. P> MY THOUGHTS I did my best to present this vehicle to you just the way it is in real life. It will look great in the finest garage and compliment any collection.
