Vehicle Detail
This is a great car. I have owned it for about 12 years. It has about 132 000 Miles. It is in, largely, original condition. Had a strong body when I replaced the outer rockers and both rear quarters (repair panels) about nine years ago. The paint has faired fairly well but could use a respray. The winshield was replaced then as well as the headliner and some other trim pieces. I just installed a rebuilt transmission (all new synchros) and new front seat upholstry from Re-originals. The dash is in excellent shape with no cracks. The is a cd player in it but it recently stopped working. I have a period Blaupunkt from a BMW 3.0 cs that will be installed prior to delivery. I just put some new tires (195/60R14)on some period Personal wheels (they are Italian!) which I think suit the 70s era gtv very well. I now have gta centre caps installed now. I have great memories or roadtriping to watch the Monterey Historics twice and lots of other local day trips. I have a stepnose vintage race car project and another roadrace car that need food.. THE ENGINE The engine is an all stock 2 Litre with the original Spica injection on it. The last time I checked it had about 140 psi across the cylinders. It has some oil leaks. I cleaned it and re inspected and it appears to be from bolts on the oil pan and bolts on the mixture solenoid. Ocaisionally there are some puffs of blue smoke but not too often. The mixture is on the rich side and under full throttle the exhaust has some black smoke in it. The Spica factory settings for the bell crank are original with the sealing wire. I have messed around with the mixture a bit, I may not have it right. It idles well at about 650 rpm. There is a header on it and a fabricated exhaust system (a little crude) which sounds good and is good condition. THE TRANSMISSION The tranmission is rebuilt with all new synchros and bearings. It shifts excellently and is a real joy to use. THE SUSPENSION The springs are a heavy spring rate which really help the car stick. They are stiff and I have originals that will go with the car. The rear shocks are Konis and the front are original equiptment Spicas. They all work well. There are urethane bushings in the rear control arms and torque T. The front balljoints and tie rod ends are good. The is some play in the upper a-arm torque rod bushings. I may replace those before delivery. THE BODYWORK The body was a really solid example when I found it 12 years ago. I had both outer rockers replaced. The inners were rust free. I also had rear quarter repair panels installed. The floors and trunk were all very good with a small amount of corrosion around the drain plug grommets. There is one area at the right rear area behind the passenger seat that has had some metal replaced. It's about 4 x 5 inches. It is still good but its not a very nice repair. Layed over and welded, not butt welded. I think I did it myself when I first bought it. I painted the entire floor and trunk with "Zero Rust", which is like a POR-15 type product. I just put a bit of it on that repair after cleaning it. The paint was never great; with drips on one door and rockers. Now there is some bubbling up in a few spots and at the front of the rocker seams. Not much has changed over the past bunch of years so I don't think it needs to be a rush to attend to these items. It is still a very good looking car (beautiful in black) that always shows really well. After having a fair paint job, I always took joy in knowing how solid the car was underneath. The bumpers and trim are in excellent shape. Side markers are fairly new. Tailights are ok. Grill is ok. Original Carello headlights are nice and rare. Serpentine emblems were new when painted and are facing the right way (forward). THE INTERIOR The dash is great, no cracks. As I mentioned, I will install a period Blaupunkt am/fm radio soon. The steering wheel looks good but some of the finish is coming off. The carpet is original and is in quite good shape. The are some cracks in the drivers side foot pad. Centre console vinyl is pulling off a bit. It's probably next on the list of things to do. Door panels are original and in good condition. Rear seats are original and vinyl is in good shape. They could be redone but they look fine. The headliner was new when the car was painted. I left off the interior light/ grab handles because I thought it looked better. All the wiring is there and I have the old one so you could see where the screwholes and wiring are, Etc. SUMMARY This is a solid driver that you can get behind the wheel of, and drive or show with pride. These are wonderful cars that are very satisfying to drive and own. Don't deny yourself this excellent opportunity to own an rapidly appreciating classic that you can drive every day and/or to trackdays. The normal things apply: I reserve the right to end the auction early. The car is sold in as is condition. Ask all questions before bidding. Thanks for your interest.
