Vehicle Detail
1991 Lotus Elan M100 89,000 Miles... New Uphoulstery.. Front Brakes just done Click on any image for a MUCH larger view. I do have the wheel caps for the front wheels. I like how they look without them, so I didn't replace them after I did the front brakes. I purchased this car on ebay last year with the intent to completely go through it and dial it in as a daily driver. I did use it as the daily driver for a couple of months, and it is a really good, fun driving car. It gets up and goes like crazy, handles great and gets more attention than my 2007 Porsche 911 did. It's a great, unique, fun little car that can be trusted to deliver you anywhere. The engine and transmisssion are rock solid, and believe it or not, it does not leak any fluids!! The paint looks good but isn't perfect. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a solid 7.5. A good color sanding would make it look really good. It's been sitting in my garage for the last few months. I lost a little steam in my efforts to get it completely dialed in. Things have gotten a little busy in my life, and I have been working on my pilot's license. My wife says that in no way am I allowed to buy a plane before I get rid of a few toys, so here we go! The top is in good shape, no rips or tears. It is a little worn, but shows really well. The weatherstripping is dried out, and could stand to be replaced. I rebuilt the driver's side headlight lift. It still needs to be adjusted (which I will do before it is picked up), but it works great. The passenger side is working fine, but I will include the rebuild kit for the mechanism. The stereo does not work. I'm more of an engine noise and road sounds kind of guy, so I never really dug into it to find out what was going on. It could be a fuse for all I know. The AC works, but the system needs a freon recharge. It blows colder, but not as cold as it should. I was told that the passenger side window had been rebuilt. The motor works fine, but the windsheild regulator needs to be replaced. It's a fairly easy operation, and there I do have the workshop manual in pdf to handle almost all the little nagging stuff leftover. When I got the car, it had some awful Kragen "racing seats" in it. I found the original seat frames, and had them reuphoulstered. It is very comfortable now. Just needs a little fine tuning. The seat belt receivers were missing from the car when I got it, and I have not installed replacements. The mileage is pretty low for an '01, but again, that reflects the garage nature of the car. If you look, you can see that the needle is missing on the temperature gauge. The speedometer works, but gets bound up. All the gauges are a little suspect, and if you wanted this vehicle to be tip-top, the whole instrument cluster should be rebuilt. The tach works perfectly, and the mileage on the odometer registers accurately. The gas gauge reads erraticly. It never shows completely full, but the low indicator seems to be accurate. The tires and rims are in very good shape. I doubt they have more than 5,000 miles on them. The next few pictures detail the paint flaws. The picture above shows a scratch/ chip on the back bonnet near the back of the top. I had a 2005 Lotus Elise, and it seems that ALL Lotus air dams are just going to get messed up being so low to the ground. You really have to get down on your knees to see these, but they are there. The starting point is set at a VERY reasonable price. I have put about a $ 1,000 into the car + my labor. The starting price is less than what I paid for it. It isn't a garage queen, and it will still need a little work here and there. It has been sitting a while, but I drove it the other day just to make sure everything that I am writing and describing is accurate. I believe it to be. This being said, the car is being sold as is. With a little more elbow grease, and a few 100 bucks this can be a really nice classic exotic roadster worth double what the starting price is.
