Vehicle Detail
1973 MGB - I've owned this car since December 2004, and it has never failed to start, first time turning the key. No electrical issues, which is often the case with British cars. The car is very sound with little rust, its either been in the barn or in my carport since I purchased it. Now here is the bad news list. I replaced the drivers side brake caliper which was sticking and a friend swore up and down that I had to run special break fluid, so I put DOT 5 in it. Being pure silicone and too thin, the fluid blew past the seals in the master cylinder. I've been told this can be an easy fix, flush it all out, refill with correct and bleed. Since I'm facing surgery, and can barely get around, and wouldn't be selling the car if money wasn't an issue, the brakes are bad. The trip odometer stopped working when I reset it to zero, weird. It has a cool canvas top, and the windows are out, but since I've never driven it in the rain, I never carried it to the trim shop to put new ones in. I purchased a new black vinyl top, it still in the box in the trunk. The seat bottoms need to be re-webbed. I purchased used biscuit color seats in really good shape. They're stilI in the box. I packed folded towels under the seats and just drove it. There's an AM/FM Cassette stereo in it. A friend gave it to me, so I stuck it in the radio hole but never hooked it up. It's supposed to work. The roll bar was in it when I bought it, and I put the fire extinguisher in it because my kids said race cars are supposed to have fire extinguishers. And yes they are mad that the car is for sale, but they also like to eat so they are understanding about the realities of life. I know I should be ashamed for not finishing the little projects on this car. Look, I've had seven surgeries in the past eight years, and I could either turn wrenches or drive it during the short off time I had, so I drove. This is a great daily driver, or if you want to invest money and build a show car, this is a great candidate. You get the car, the new top, the seats, it has the original tool kit, the battery is less than a year old, a new steering wheel that is supposed to bolt up to the existing steering wheel kit, two speed rated but not mounted tires, and I think there's a boot and maybe a tonneau cover laying around for it, I'll update the auction as I find more stuff. I put new intertior brake and clutch pedal pads on and replaced the center console arm rest. The rims are alloy and have MG center caps. I don't know what they are, but they look cool. Now the auction stuff. When you win the auction, I require $500.00 within 24 hours via PayPal. The balance due when you pick it up, which must be within five days of your win. Also, we need to do the paper work before 5pm on a business day and you must have valid ID. The title work will be done by a local notary who will notarize the title before the car leaves my possession. Sorry, but times have changed and I can't have a car out there in my name. And you won the car, so the notary fees are in the you pay this column. The notary works at my bank so the fees are only a few dollars. The balance due should be in a certified form of check, or I will even take cash, with proper ID. Ebayers this is a Contenential US auction only, I won't ship to far off exotic lands, even if your uncle owns a trans-atlantic shipping firm and you'll handle customs. I'll try to answer your questions, if I don't reply within 30 seconds, don't be upset with me, I'm not a well man. You are purchasing an old car made over seas, its not a show car, it runs great, it needs some TLC, and I really hate I'm having to sell her. The car is As-Is, no refunds, no warranty expressed or implied, you bought it, its yours, etc. If your not afraid to turn wrenches and want an easy project that you can drive and make money on, want to build a show car, or have a good mechanic and some extra cash to play with, here is your new toy. Thanks and happy ebay to all.On Jun-13-10 at 12:04:27 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the inquiries, and the get well wishes. I've added more pictures, do the the requests of shots from underneath the car and from under the carpet, behind the seats and in the trunk. The car is dirty and needs a bath and vacuuming. I stored it in the barn over the fall and winter, so it needs to be cleaned up. Again, I'm just not well enough to spend hours in the heat detailing her. So look close in the pics, what might look like rust is most likely good old North Carolina Red Dirt and Dust. As promised, here's the spare parts update: Tonneau, and Boot, both dusty, both included, new steering wheel, pic of the seats I had saved on my computer from the auction I won them on. They're still in the box. I found a Rostyle rim and tire for use as a spare. The MG jack and original black vinyl bag are in the trunk, there some other assorted spare parts I picked up over the years in the trunk for you, front calipers, back up light lens, just stuff. And I'll throw a Haynes MG manual in the trunk for you. If you're planning shipping or pick up from out of town, want to pay the deposit outside of PayPal, if you have zero or negative feedback, are new to ebay, or if you want to change how you take delivery from what I've asked for in the description, please contact me first. And remember, this is an old car with bad brakes and its not a show car. It needs work. If you're new to MG ownership, every part for this car is easily available, and not very expensive. You can buy rebuild parts for the entire brake system and do the work yourself for a couple hundred dollars. My health won't let me roll around under a car and do it. I drove the MG again this morning, I live out in the country so the brakes thing isn't as much an issue. Not many stop signs and very little traffic. But don't win this car and plan on driving it home, safety first, please. And it is sold As-Is, you won it its yours, no warranty and all that. And sorry to those who wanted to come over and see it, drive it. I've got a wife who just had surgery herself, and the bonus of selling on ebay is privacy. You list things in the paper or on Cr----g's List, you get tire kickers, joy riders, and strangers coming to your home. Not to metion the tons of phone calls. Its an auction, I'm taking a chance too. This is a no reserve auction, I know I won't get what I'd love to get for the car, but that's all part of the fun. Oh, the 1973 North Carolina License Plate goes to the winner, if you live in NC, if not its promised to a friend to go on his hot rod. Thanks everybody for the warm get well wishes and the interest in a really fun car. Happy ebay to all.
