Vehicle Detail
This is a very solid 1950 MG TD. Engine #XPAGTD5668. Car has been in dry storage since 1976 when it was brought to the US from Australia. Still has 1975 inspection sticker! Large file of previous registration documents included with car. Sold on bill of sale. Car was never titled. It has documented history. I am selling this car to focus on other restoration projects. As with other cars I have sold on eBay, this is an accurate unvarnished description. The reserve is under $2500.00. The car is complete except for a few noted items, but needs restoration, Would make a great vintage race car. Car was built with rare optional wire wheels and optional clock. Wheels have been blasted, primed and painted the correct silver and will be boxed. All the wheel hub splines are excellent, no broken or bent spokes. (see pictures). The 5 spare wheels with 4 excellent Michelin 165 SR 15 XZX radial, blackwall tires are on the car in the photos. Some of the mounted wheels/tires that are on the car in the photos have hub/spline wear and are from a different car but are the correct size and style. There are many NOS parts included and I can supply any needed items from Moss Motors to the buyer at a discount from retail as I am a Moss Distributor. The sheet metal is very solid, See pictures of doors and fenders as well as running boards and curtain box. Front fender edges are excellent where most show rot. Even the side curtain box is not rusted out. Top and optional side curtain frames come with car. This car came off the road when it threw a rod in 1976. Engine needs to be rebuilt and at a minimum of one cylinder has to be sleeved. 3 NOS sleeves included along with a full NOS set of standard pistons with rings and pins. The one sleeve has a hole but the block is serviceable. There are 4 excellent matched set rods with the engine with NOS bolts and nuts. Crankshaft measures 51.21mm (2.016") on the mains and 44.42mm (1.749") on the rod journals and is not scored or suffered any spun bearings. Camshaft and sprockets are great. Body tub needs some timbers replaced. They are dry rotted, see photos. The hinge pillars and latch pillars are in need of replacement along with the door bottom timbers and tub bottoms but the sheet metal is not rotted out! Being in Australia for so long and then in dry storage, the metal faired better than the wood. I have opened and inspected the transmission and replaced tail shaft bearing and gaskets. Gears and shafts are excellent. Cluster gear is excellent. Frame of car is exceptionally solid but has surface rust as shown in pictures. There are new floor boards in place but not fully installed. Boards behind seat are in need of replacement. Glove box door is missing. Generator is dated 2/1951. Starter is dated 2/1951. Generator pulley was broken and has been repaired. Would benefit from new pulley. Has original, early/correct Lucas coil. Tach drive is excellent. The following included items are NOS: Full set lifters, full set pistons/rings/pins, 3 cylinder sleeves, full set cam bearings, main bearings and rod bolts, oil pump gears and bolts as well as some other bits too numerous to list. Clutch cover and disc not included but available at discount price. They were just not worth hauling around as they needed replacing anyway. Flywheel teeth are excellent. Flywheel will take larger/later clutch. Has surface rust but friction surface is not scored. Cylinder head has NOT been machined/milled down. Needs rebuild. The engine is complete, dismantled and organized and will be well packed. The carbs have excellent throttle shaft housing condition. Comes with original cast aluminum air filter casting and oil bath filter. The casting does have a wear through from rubbing at one end though. As stated this car is in need of restoration but is an excellent candidate and worth the effort. Has original paint (failing) and has NOT been banged up or crashed. Rear axle and all hub splines are excellent. New front bump stops installed. Fuel tank and radiator are excellent. No fractures in radiator surround. Front bumper in pictures is broken but an intact used original is included. (not shown). Some typical rust at battery top area, (see photos). Exhaust manifold has surface rust but no cracks or breaks. Exhaust pipe and muffler included but need replacement. Seat leather is dry rotted, foam is failing, but frames, springs and slides are there. Front and rear lenses are original glass not plastic. Car and all included parts for pick up only in Canterbury, CT. I am willing to deliver it in enclosed trailer within 100 miles one way for reasonable, negotiable payment. Beyond that distance delivery is possible but must be determined before auction end. Delivery and or pickup only after payment clears. Car can be pre-viewed by calling me at 860-546-0605 between 9:00AM and 7:00PM EST. I have sold other similar projects like an Austin Healey 3000 and MGB to satisfied, happy buyers.
