Vehicle Detail
1978 MGB!! Here's an opportunity to pre-book your summer fun by placing the winning bid on this cute little British classic from Abingdon, England. This is a super running sports car, "babied", tuned up, and ready to go for the season and beyond. This is a solid, non-rusty car, having spent it's life in DRY south Georgia. Having owned and tinkered with many of these B's over the past 30+ years, I am familiar with the fun, the excitement, value and satisfaction gained by ownership of these cute little machines. I do know a good one when I see one, and I have not been without an MGB in my driveway since the 70's. I've put several thousand miles on this B over the past months, driving to shows and yes, to work, on my 110 mile round trip commute here in Georgia. The car runs like a charm; starts instantly and idles really smoothly. Why? Here are a few reasons: Recent newly transplanted late model engine and transmission with LESS than 50K original miles on both (April 2010) New Weber downdraft carb with auto choke TONS of new parts installed associated with the engine swap Electronic Ignition by Luminition (British aftermarket module) Solid ANSA exhaust, producing a clean and clear "note", very suitable to a British Classic (not loud!) New belts, hoses, starter relay, ignition coil, gas filter, wires, hazard switch, thermostat and sensor....more and too much to list or remember! Timed properly and lubed at all possible points, including drive shaft; new engine and tranny oilIn addition, I have installed a brand new top, with zip down rear window, NEW Firestone tires all around and have gone through the front and rear suspensions, relpacing anything needed, including front shocks and steering rack boots. This MG sits well on its suspension and corners as it should. Bushings are in great shape and this is evidenced by the smooth ride at 80 mph....yes, she cruises beautifully at 80 on the highway without the shakes!! Many have heard and experienced electrical problems with British cars. These generally crop up at inopportune times and are almost always a result of age and lack of attention to the car. I am aware of this unintended feature passed along by the Brits and have personally touched every wire in this car, looking for wear, cleaning connections and carefully replacing wiring where needed. The dash was removed in order to undertake this and I have installed multiple fuses where the MG Car Company forgot! I have even installed a new ignition switch and voltage stabilizer. All of this was done with safety in mind over the winter and the results are, bright lights, working wipers, blinkers, flashers etc as well as a strong starter. The battery was replaced with new and modern headlight relays, added last month. These not only contribute to the luster of the lamps but constitute peace of mind, as high current is now by-passed away from the headlight switch, which is a super idea. A Battery cut-off switch is also installed and easily accessed from the driver seating, great for when storing these cars over very long periods. The interior of the car is in very nice shape with NEW CARPETS and even several new gauges including the new NOS Tach. Very nice presentation. The car comes with a full tonneau cover, original jack, spare tire and yes, the door locks and trunk lock come with keys and work! All glass is good; there is no need to do anything to this cutie except drive, have fun and be noticed. You may decide to look into a paint job at some point if you're restoring her to show condition or if you're fussy as there are numerous blemishes, some chips and items of normal wear on a car of 32 years of age. You'll find that this MG shifts beautifully, down shifts with all synchros functioning as new, and runs cool, even in HOTLANTA traffic. It has an aftermarket cooling fan with dash mounted indicator light. This is one of the best running B's I've owned, not suprisingly as the previous owner is a mechanic and kept this car on the road daily over a 14 year period. This is significant when dealing with a vehicle of this vintage. The car was properly maintained and DRIVEN! BTW, I have a clear Georgia Title to convey. As with most auctions I do reserve the right to end this one early as it is advertised locally. I will be willing to assist with shipping, limited to being accessible within reason should you send a carrier my way. Frankly, if you're not located at the far ends of the earth, driving the car home could be a fun mini-vacation! (I recently sold a B to a fellow in Southern California who did just that, in the month of December encountering snow and frigid temps! ) I encourage you to ask questions, and I will be happy to provide my phone number upon request. Additional photos are always an option; just let me know. You now have a chance to own a solid British Sports Car which will provide years of fun whether you join a club or just wish to cruise your town's winding roads, on upcoming summer nights! The "Reserve" is set at a ridiculous price. Have fun with the bidding!!!
