UPDATED 6/1: NO RESERVE!!! (I'll probably regret this. . .but I really really REALLY need the garage space right now!) For sale: 1997 BMW 528i. This car was my baby, but when I changed jobs and bought a new house, she went into storage (in my climate-controlled garage). The time has come to sell her to someone who can truly enjoy a car like this. This is a re-list, as I was unable to sell it with my initial listing. It needs some maintenance and one minor repair, but if you can turn a wrench and do a brake job, you will have an incredible luxury car for very little cash. The Car: 1997 BMW 528i 116,975 miles Black / Black interior Premium Package (power moon roof, heated leather seats, heated steering wheel, premium sound, power everything, front and side air bags, heated mirrors, driver position memory.) Sony 10-disc CD changer The Condition: The exterior is very good, with plenty of shine on the deep black paint. This model just doesn't look right in any other color. Only the usual minor nicks and scuffs that you'll find on a 13-year-old car. There is a crack in the front engine cover under the front bumper; you can't see this unless you crawl under the car, but it's there. I'm not the type of guy to fiberglass it and not tell you about it. The interior is spotless, with absolutely no holes or scuffs in the leather or the wood trim. The armrest in the center console has some flaking on the plastic, but it's black paint over black plastic. There is a missing small plastic control knob on the left side of the driver's seat. Mechanically, the car runs excellent. While stored, it has been maintained on a trickle charger and started regularly. This 2.8l engine has proven rock-solid for BMW, and this is a very low-mileage example for this model year. It's also plenty fast to push this large car at high speeds. Needs: Now, here is a complete list of what this car needs to make it 100% right. Please read this carefully, as it is my reason for having such a low reserve: Brakes - they are completely gone from sitting. I have a complete set of brand-new Mintek pads (front and rear) and wear sensors that I will include with the sale. I haven't put them on yet because I think it will need rotors, too. NOTE: You can buy an entire brake kit for this car, including all four rotors, pads, and sensors, for $327 from Bavarian Autosport. I am including a complete set of pads and sensors with it. . .you'll just need the rotors, so it's not a huge expense. Tires - the rear Continentals are bald, the front are ok. I put this set of tires on for storage, and sold the Michelins and custome wheels that I had on the car. You absolutely will need to put new tires on this car. Hood Release - when I pulled it out of the garage to wash it yesterday, I pulled the hood release latch, and the cable let go. It's either a broken cable or a stuck latch. The part is about $150 from Bavarian Autosport (my preferred parts source), and if you have the skill to replace it, should take about 30 minutes. The Details: This car is being sold as-is / where-is. Buyer is responsible for pickup at my address. Now, I will drop it off at your place if you happen to be within a few miles of me. Based on the condition of the brakes (see above), this car shouldn't be driven on the highway until they've been repaired. I would greatly prefer to sell this car locally, as I have no experience with shipping cars. However, if you do not live in the immediate 15108 area, buyer will be 100% responsible for transporting the vehicle. For serious bidders, the car is available to be viewed, started, etc. The brakes are shot, so test drives will be limited to trips around the block. . .I'm trying to sell a car, not get anybody killed. Payment Options: Of course I accept good old cash. I prefer PayPal for any money transfer, with buyer responsible for PayPal fees. I will accept a certified check from a reputable bank, with title and vehicle transferred when the check is verified and cleared. If you really want to use a personal check, contact me before bidding and we'll talk. Buyer is responsible for all applicable tax/title/plate fees. Buyer agrees to complete payment and take posession of the vehicle no later than 7 days after close of auction. Good luck, happy bidding, and please give my baby a good home! NOTE: This car is also for sale locally. . .I reserve the right to end the auction early due to local sale.
