Vehicle Detail
Here is a very nice 1953 Willys CJ-3B that is roadworthy. I run errands in it frequently. I have the title in my name so no drama there. The Jeep is still mostly original with the Hurricane engine and T-90 transmission, both of which work great. The engine starts right up hot or cold, no smoke and is very smooth. I’ve had the Jeep for two years, and from what I’ve been told by the previous owner, the Jeep was totally refurbished 12 years ago. I have no reason to doubt that. The paint still has some shine but there are some surface rust spots. There is also rust on the drivers side support for the fender. Also some rust on a cross member under the tub near the rear wheel wells. Since I’m in the disclosing mode, the only gauges that are hooked up are the temperature gauge and the oil pressure gauge. The odometer works but the speedometer has a broken needle. The ampere meter and the gas gauge are not hooked up and will be good things for a “to do” list. The seats are not original and in pretty bad shape under the seat covers, but they look okay. The emergency brake cable needs to be replaced. There is a custom made stainless steel gas tank that works great. I believe that the body is all original, but the tub has been re-done by a fantastic metal worker. He or she really did a great job. The wheels are not original but look pretty good. The tires have great tread and no dry rot. The Jeep was converted to a 12 volt system. The horn, alternator, transfer case and heater works, as does the cooling system, headlights, turn signals, flashers and instrument panel light. I don’t have the brake lights working, but the switch does work. The vacuum powered windshield wiper works well just in case a top is ever installed. The tailgate and the windshield frame are original parts with the original paint and patina. Other things that go with the Jeep are a rear seat, Carter carburetor (that needs to be rebuilt) and an extra snow tire that matches the rear tires. So including the spare tire, you’ll have six tires and five wheels. The odometer reads 9,500 miles which I assume is the mileage since the motor was rebuilt. I also assume there are many more miles on the vehicle, but I have no way of knowing how many there are. The reserve is less than what I paid for the Jeep two years ago, but it was a non runner. It’s been a blast to get this Jeep running. Basically, all it needed was a super tune-up. She has a new ignition key switch, solenoid, battery, battery cables, coil, points, spark plugs, spark plug wires and a new Solex Carburetor. She has fresh oil in the motor, transmission, transfer case and both differentials. She’s been greased up and has fresh antifreeze too, but I have not touched the brakes (but they obviously work). If this is your first Willys, you’ll be amazed (as I was) how easy and fun it is to work on and how heavy duty these little suckers are. For the seasoned Willys owner, I hope you’ll find that I did things “right” and will enjoy driving it and working on it as much as I have. You’ll have to work out transporting the Jeep on your own, but I’d be happy to help load it up. I require a $500.00 deposit and the full balance in the form of cash or a cashier’s check when the Jeep is picked up. For a 57 year old Willys, I would say that this CJ-B is very solid. I’d be happy to answer any more questions and send more photos upon request. Good Luck!
