Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a select Mercedes coupe that has been in storage for many years. I am Steven and I am selling this car for a friend. I build special automobiles as "Volanta". This car is available for sale on this Ebay auction and in other places at the same time. When you obtain the car, you can do whatever you wish with it, however for the buyers with an interest in modifying this car, I have added a few notes and pictures in this description listing relative to the potential inspiration of my services. The sale of this car may transpire prior to the end of this Ebay auction. CAR INFO - This Mercedes coupe 280 C, VIN number 11407312104463 was last registered and driven in 1995. At that time, with only 69,000 miles on the car, the original owner lunched the engine. I am guessing they either overheated it or didn't add oil. The current owner that has never put the car on the road, obtained a very low miles engine from a wreck and installed it. Since then it has pretty much set in the same spot all of these years. Two weeks ago, I personally went through the process of getting it running and qualified for this sale. QUALIFY WORK DONE - I installed a new battery, cleaned up a few electrical connections and put new fuel in the tank on top of the old fuel. The added fuel was like Ralph's sister putting on make up, it didn't help. The engine runs fine, however the fuel system needs work. The only way I could keep it running was to stick a suction hose from the new electric fuel pump on the fender well into a fuel can on the bumper. The fuel line to the tank and the tank are plugged up with sludge. The engine install featured an adapter to a Detroit production four barrel carburetor. This carb is also gummed up, but in my book, it has to go in the scrap pile. A new carb adapter can be easily made to fit any Detroit two barrel carb. The four barrel is way overkill for the cubes of this engine. The engine sounds like new, instant oil pressure on start up, no cam or lifter noise, clean running, well preserved engine. The electrical system looks like it needs to be cleaned up and serviced, wire brush, contact spray, etc. The AC system is the 75 vintage antique stuff. I would update to an aftermarket assembly complete. INSPECTION - The paint has pretty much burned off the car. The clear coat has peeled away in many places, but it is original. There is a small rust spot on the trunk lid, however under both doors, there isn't anything but original metal and paint. (I have many more pics if you want to see them.) Under the floorboard at the front points there are three small holes that have rusted through. The underside of the car otherwise looks great. I am shocked that the interior survived the sun over the years. It is blue and in very good shape. The seats and door panels all look like new. I opened the drivers window and it moved slow, so I didn't want to risk activating any other windows. I would service and lube them all before breaking things, its been setting for 15 years. The dash has an aftermarket pad on it and yes there are a few cracks in the dash. The tires are all dry rotted. The work and investment to restore the vehicle to a driver is really pretty low depending on your paint shop connections. If you're a purist and want this to be somewhat original, then here's your ride. VOLANTA - These notes are restricted to not give away too much for the "creative challenged". When the current owner bought this car, we had a shop within walking distance. At that time we had three Facel Vegas in our shop. One perfect and two wrecked. In 95, looking at the lines of this 280 C, we sketched out what it would take to stretch the front end almost two feet, lower the profile and by all means get rid of the total 70's theme. Our inspiration was the Facel Vega. Also do see two other rides examples in that arena, a Bentley coupe and a Mark 4 (we call them "level four rides"). The plan of thought basically focused on a transition to mid 60's exclusive sports car, body by Volanta. The intent of our service is to form an end product in sync with the character of the customer, however if I were building this ride for myself - I would remove the Mecedes identity and re-design the auto fuselage as a late 60's Delage as if they had continued in business. We can create any grill and headlight configuration, but to me, I see a Delage style grill, unique headlight trim and tail lights. Please note - to not give the farm away, we will not freely discuss trade secrets, fab tactics, drawings or pricing during this auction. If you really do have a serious interest in our services then simply buy the car, (which at $2400 US is outright cheap for the vehicle condition) and then arrange to meet us. If you want to know how to do this work, please do not contact us, thank you. Volanta@rocketmail.com Thank you for your consideration, good luck bidding ............. ADDED PER REQUEST - PIC UNDER DOOR. Also - answer to a common question - No, you do not have to add a chassis or frame when stretching a unibody car. Yes, there is a technique for doing this, plus lowering at the same time.
