Vehicle Detail

I have up for sale a modified 1981 Pontiac Trans Am hardtop. This is a rebodied 81 Trans Am(original shell was too far gone). This T/A is equipped with a Pontiac 400 bored .030 over, aluminum roller rockers, Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley dual feed 750 four barrel carb. The engine has a trans adapter bolted up so a built 700r4 automatic overdrive with a shift kit could be bolted right up. The rear end is a GM 10 bolt with an Eaton posi-trac differential. The engine has a really noticable lope to it(I don't have the cam specs, unfortunately). With me driving it back and forth to work as a daily driver, it has been getting around 12 miles to the gallon. The engine has headers bolted to it going into true dual exhaust with Flowmasters, and the dual turndowns out the back. The elderly neighbors fuss about it being too loud...hehehe. The a/c has been deleted off this car. A custom heater box has been installed so the vent, heater, and defrost would still work. During the rebody, I used the front bumper from a 78 Trans Am instead of the 79-81 style. I even used 78 style front spoilers and the chin/center spoiler to match. I had the front fender wells powdercoated to protect them from rust and rock chips. The shaker is NOT screwed to the hood....a custom air cleaner base on the Holley carb allows the shaker to sit on the engine and do it's thang...shake, baby shake! The body work is above amature quality, and so is the paint finish. The 78 style graphics kit in blue in black was a good complement to the white body. The front end was rebuilt, and new heavy duty springs where installed and has the heavier duty WS6 style front sway bar. The rear suspension got new Monroe shocks and rear leaf springs from AMES Pontiac Performance. New windshield. The interior is in good to fair shape. Two noticeable splits in the driver seat(I was careless with a screwdriver). Some of the paint on a couple interior trim pieces have flaked off. Headliner is new. Custome gauges are all accross the dash. The only one not hooked up is the vacuum boost gauge. There is a Pioneer CD player installed. There is a four speed B&M shifter installed also that works flawlessly. New window weatherstripping. New trunk lid weatherstripping. I have new door weatherstripping sitting in the trunk uninstalled(original still on the car). There is just over 4,000 miles put on the car since all this work was done. I do have some of the receipts. The receipts on the engine alone total close to $3500!!! Noticable issues: This is not a "trailer queen" restored car. This car is built to ENJOY...TO DRIVE. Some minor minor flaws can be nit-picked in this car, and it is by no means a numbers matching original car. There are a couple scratches on the driver side window(not cracked). There is a spot on the back bumper one of my kids chipped the paint with a bicycle. The car runs like a beast...but sometimes acts like it could use a lil' more gas in the midrange...probably the stupid Holley carb...I blew the powervalve out once already and had to adjust the timing. If you want a perfect showcar, go spend the $20,000 to $50,000 on one of those....or spend a LOT less and have fun ENJOYING this one. I drive this car EVERY DAY TO WORK. Why am I selling? I want to buy a new truck, but my wife agrees that I need to sell some of my toys out of the driveway first(I have three Trans Ams for sale)...I get to keep only one. I'm pretty sure my 95 T/A will sell locally, and I may put the 79 T/A project car on here, too. Feel free to email me for more information or additional photos. All of my Trans Ams are listed locally, so I maintain the right to end the auction early if the reserve has not been met. Feel free to email buy it now offers. On May-17-10 at 18:00:39 PDT, seller added the following information: CLARIFICATION ON FRONT END REBUILD: The a-arm bushings were not replaced. The front springs are new(heavy duty), new shocks, new sway bar bushings, and new subframe bushings. The tie rod ends, center link, and idler arm were inspected and did not need replacing. The suspension is tight and very responsive. Has not been 100% rebuilt because it didn't need it. Trunk is in great shape...picture added. Engine questions: I took a valve cover off and took a picture to show off the aluminum rockers for visual proof of what is in the engine...well, at least what I can get to! Also the numbers cast on the head is 6 7 0. On May-18-10 at 09:51:54 PDT, seller added the following information: MORE DRIVETRAIN INFORMATION FROM RECEIPTS: The cam kit came from Jegs- Powermax Cam Kit 278. The aluminum roller rockers are 1.5's part # CSP-S6001, Eaton differential part# ETN-19557-010, and the ring & pinion set part# SAG-G85373 all ordered from Summit Racing. Comp Performance( Memphis) supplied the 5/16 Hi-Tech pushrods. Lamkin Automotive (of Ruston) rebuilt the 700r4 transmission and installed a shift kit, Corvette servo, and a v-8 boost valve. RPM Machine (of West Monroe) bored the engine .030 over, installed new pistons, rings, bearings, freeze plugs, timing chain, cam, oil pump, and performed a valve job on the heads which included new valves and resurfacing the heads. They also polished the crank. Hope that answers several of your questions. Just a reminder...you are bidding to buy. Excuses after winning the auction that you can't get the money/financing won't fly. Have your cash together or financing already approved before bidding. On May-20-10 at 11:14:28 PDT, seller added the following information: Thursday, May 20th update: RESERVE LOWERED. IF THE RESERVE IS NOT MET, I WILL NOT RELIST. If the winning bidder is a deadbeat, I will not relist either. My 1995 Trans Am sold Sunday, which gives me my down payment. I'll either keep this Trans Am or trade it in on the truck I want. Good luck!On May-20-10 at 18:45:39 PDT, seller added the following information: 1981 Trans Am cleaned upChad | MySpace VideoOn May-21-10 at 09:18:45 PDT, seller added the following information: I ran the part numbers on the rear end build. The rear gear is 3.73:1. The Eaton differential is a limited slip, not full posi-trac. Limited slip is better (in my opinion) and safer on a street car, especially taking curves(a posi has a tendency to want to hop and slide around sharp corners with both axles locked up). If you put your foot to the floor with the current differential, both tires roast. Sorry for any confusion. The engine is running at 2,000 RPM at 60 MPH in overdrive, just to give you an idea on how the T/A runs on the open interstate. Hopefully you auction viewers were able to view the video clip I added above. I took the video yesterday afternoon after washing the Trans Am before a local guy came to check it out.On May-22-10 at 21:00:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Saturday 5/22 update: I added a couple pictures of the floorpan from underneath the car. Sorry, I don't have a lift to get completely under the car!!!
