Vehicle Detail

As American as Apple Pie 1966 Ford Mustang O ffered For Sale is a 1966 Ford Mustang Coupe. It's in very original condition throughout. This classic features a 289 V-8 engine with a 4 bbl carburetor and a throaty exhaust to complete the picture. The body is straight and rust-free. The black interior is in great condition. This alluring Pony has plenty of "giddy-up" and makes for a reliable daily driver. This Mustang has always been a California car, and was recently acquired from its long-time owner who's had it since 1985. At that time, he purchased it from his father in-law who bought the car new in 1966. A well taken care of Mustang that was never abused is a rare find, indeed. This one still sports white wall tires and its highly desired California Black Plates. Classic 'stangs are wonderful cars, and a great buy in the world of collectible automobiles, but prices are on the rise, especially where unmolested early models with the coveted 289 V-8 are concerned. Over the decades, many classic Mustangs have unfortunately fallen prey to neglect, accidents, modifications, or over-eager boy-racers who drove them into the ground. Not this example though; it's a survivor. After 44 years, this Pony still rides proudly in its American tradition, while offering fine performance, good looks, and a huge following. Showing off the car’s superb provenance, these highly coveted Black & Gold California license plates are a must have for any "keeper." Your buddies will be jealous of these treasures that define California Dreamin'. Click to the left for Larger Picture The VIN for this 1966 Mustang is: 6R07C214431 for all you aficionados. Cruising in a vintage Mustang makes you feel like a kid in a candy store...excited and full of energy. The experience is pure fun - both for driver and passengers. This car instantly transfers you to another era when The Beach Boys were always playing and taking an afternoon drive to the local burger joint was something you looked forward to. Cockpit is truly race inspired - it offers a complete instrument panel with separate readouts for oil / temperature / voltage. All the gauges function accurately. Signals, wipers, and horn operate fine. Heater works great and will make you sweat. Original radio is currently on non-op. Click on the Images for Larger Picture ............ Interior is in nice, stock condition. Front seats have recently been upholstered and look great. Rear bench is original and appears to have been sparingly used. ............ Click on the Images Above for Larger Picture The black / chrome color combination is classic, in a macho sort of way, and looks very cool. ............ Carpeting is older and shows some wear from use. Glass and windows are in fine shape, with no cracks or pits to report. Headliner is in nice condition as well. Amazingly, even the interior lights work! Click on the Images Above for Larger Picture Dash pad is in great shape. Cabin features the rare center console, an added bonus, which definitely completes the interior’s appeal. According to the previous owner, the exterior was repainted many moons ago, in a shade to match the Mustang's original "Antique Bronze" color. It currently appears a little lighter than the factory finish. The paint shines brightly and looks presentable, but it’s an older respray, and shows its age by some thin spots and minor imperfections here and there. The previous owner, who's known the Mustang practically its entire life, said it has never been in any accidents. From what is seen, I believe it to be true. The panels are nice and straight, and everything lines up evenly. He did mention one flaw - a crease on the lower rear quarter panel behind the driver's wheel well. It's not very noticeable, and considering the car's age, that's pretty good! ............ Click on the Images for Larger Picture ........... From use, there are rock chips and light scratches, but nothing to lose sleep over. Front bumper also has a little dimple. More importantly, I don’t see any rust on the panels. Undercarriage and trunk are solid, too, with no problems to report. The car has been kept in a dry California climate and garaged most of its life, so it would make sense to be without corrosion issues. Black vinyl top is brand new. It looks great and offers a unique color combination that's quite appealing. .................. ................. Click on the Images Above for Larger Picture Up front, you’ll find the coveted Ford 289 V-8 motor. A tried and true specimen, if there ever was one. Pump the gas a couple times when it's cold, turn the key, and the throaty exhaust note that is "music" to any Mustang lover's ear, instantly comes to life. I've driven this car quite a bit, and even took it on a steady road trip of over 200 miles. It runs fantastic and is very fun to drive. The car has never given me any problems. ............ Click on the Images Above for Larger Picture All the vitals are where they should be - oil pressure is good, and the running temperature is always low. The original 2 bbl carburetor was replaced long ago with a 4 bbl unit that is absolutely wonderful, and gives this 'stang all the performance and torque you could want. I believe the choke is disconnected, so when stone cold, it takes a little bit of warming up before you hit the trail. Cruise-O-Matic transmission operates fine, and is smooth in all gears. Engine is quiet and idles steady as a watch. The previous owner always had the motor maintained regularly with oil-changes and tune ups. This is a numbers-matching engine, according to the previous owner, with a rebuild in the mid '90s about 50K ago. The motor runs very strong and is healthy as a "horse." The fine 289 V-8 performance....the mental journey back to the '60s...the cache of a legendary American Icon.... all these tickle the senses and add to the pride of classic Mustang ownership. The example offered here presents a great value and opportunity in the world of collectible automobiles. This Mustang is not perfect, nor is it a show car, but it's a great original example for someone who’s always wanted to join the club, or sold their classic ’stang years ago and now wants the magic back. Don't buy into the countless "projects" that require tons of sorting or don't even run. This prize can be instantly driven and enjoyed, but is also an investment that's safe and will certainly appreciate in value. So, why not mix business with pleasure?
