Vehicle Detail
1968 Ford Mustang Fastback with 289ci engine, three speed automatic transmisson, power steering. Mileage on the odometer is about 75,000 miles, but I doubt it reflects the true mileage of the car as a whole. Purchased several years ago for my youngest son as a project, many mechanical upgrades/repairs made to the car, but very little bodywork, interior work, or painting done. Son has since moved on to another car, and I have several other vehicles of my own to restore. It's not fair to this car to let it set any longer as a very infrequently used ocassional driver. It is currently licensed, insured, inspected, and fully driveable. Rattles and squeaks, needs: some bodywork, head liner, seat covers, interior trim mounted, carpet, stereo, trunk to backseat door mounted, plastic dash panels replaced, rusty bumpers addressed, new mufflers, some of the chrome trim replaced, new side mirrors (corrosion of metal), the heater vent wells leak, and a few other minor items addressed. Transmission works very well, engine is burning a little oil. Some of the repairs/upgrades and features include: High Performance 289 ci engine (studs on rocker arms), Equipped with exhaust headers, Rare original bench seat (fewer than 1500 made), "Bullit" style American Racing Torq Thrust D wheels: 15x6 in front, 16x8 rear, Buyer has option of hood with embedded signal lights (pictured) or original plain hood, New shock absorbers, New brake shoes, New brake wheel cylinders and master cylinder, New ball joint and lower control arms, New idler arm steering bushing, Steering components tight and aligned, New gas tank, 2 barrel carburetor rebuilt and upgraded with electric choke, New passenger door window regulator, New dashboard pad and have repainted dashboard, New interior door panels, Fold down rear seat, New period correct gas cap, Replaced heater plenum (box), heater core, and fan motor, New shifter handle w/"T" and neutral safety switch, Headlight and other switches. New trunk lock This is for sale as-is! Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions or to request more pictures, I do not wish to "surprise" anyone. Shipping is up to the buyer, but I will consider driving the car to meet someone part way if they are not too far from Richmond, VA. This car is also for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end this auction early. On May-09-10 at 12:15:05 PDT, seller added the following information:Concerning questions about frame rails and rust: Both of the rear frame rails appear to have been partially cut a sloppily rewelded near the main bend, not sure why were cut. I would replace them if I were keeping the car. The only rust through on the quarter panels are small holes behind the bottom chrome trim on the front quarter panels. The rear panels have a thin coating of peeling bondo on them apparently to smooth some dents, but no rust through (unusual). The bottoms of both of the doors have a thin line along the bottom of rust through. There's a mediocrely done patch welded to replace part of the drivers floor, but is serviceable and passes state inspection. The rest of the floors are solid. There's a patch we welded in inside the trunk (can be seen in picture) over the right frame rail where that panel had some serious rust. The inner fenders, firewall, the rest of the sides of the car and the roof are solid. All glass is good. The two "wells" below the heater vent have rusted and will leak into the interior, but we have installed a temporary plexiglass panel over the heater vents to prevent such leakage for now. And again, this car is currently state inspected, licensed, insured, clear title, and is driveable to wherever you might need to take it upon pickup. On May-09-10 at 12:26:19 PDT, seller added the following information:My nephew returned from 2nd tour to Iraq and I will be helping him the next few days to move some belongings from his current station in Texas to his new one in VA. I will check in and respond to questions only as I can until I return home on May 13. JohnOn May-14-10 at 15:19:35 PDT, seller added the following information:A correction: only the front shocks have been replaced by me, the rear ones have not.On May-14-10 at 15:23:24 PDT, seller added the following information:Reserve has been reduced.
