Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1986 Corolla GTS AE86 hatchback. This is the real deal. This is not an SR5 conversion (see VIN plate in pictures). Please read the following. Happy bidding. THE GOOD: -Owned and maintained by an ASE and Toyota Master technician (that's me) the last 2.5 years. Drivetrain: -4age engine with high compression WISECO forged aluminum pistons (10.4:1) -Overbored 1mm (82mm diameter) -Machined .020" off of head, .008" off of block, used HKS 1.6mm head gasket to make up the difference -ARP head studs, rod bolts, main bearing bolts, flywheel bolts -Crankshaft polished and balanced -3 angle valve job -New valve seals, HKS head gasket, other various engine seals and gaskets (December '09) -New 4-1 exhaust header (December '09) -New LSD side bearings, pinion bearing (December '09) -New rear axle/wheel bearings (December '09) -New pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and retainers (December '09) -5 speed manual transmission -Shifts smoothly, no harsh engagement, no slipping out of gear Chassis: -Megan racing lowering springs at all 4 axles -14" factory wheels -GRANT GT drift steering wheel -Front and rear upper strut braces Electrical: -Custom made projector headlights (Hella E55 projectors) with custom made 3/4 LED angel eye rings (I made them) -HID kit with 4300k bulbs (bright white, no blue tint) -Retained high beams (projectors have built-in solenoids for brights) -NGK high temp spark plug wires -Electric cooling fan, controlled by switch on dash -Sunroof works -Pop-up headlights work -Power mirrors work -Blower motor and heater controls work -Radio and CD player work (by no means does it have a great audio system) Body: -Brand new (July '09) JDM whiteline tail lights and center trim -VIS carbon fiber hood -Custom made real carbon fiber door panel trim (I made them, not perfect but much better than tattered cloth) -Unique roof/hatch wing -New body kit (July '09) professionally painted -Original windshield -Original hatch glass THE BAD: -Clutch and brake master cylinders are leaking (check fluid every couple weeks) -Has rust spots here and there (see pictures) -Rattles and squeaks various places (though nothing is falling apart) -Exhaust system is leaking in a couple places (kind of loud at highway speeds) -Water leaks in at rear of hatch and right rear quarter glass -Steering rack has slow leak but steering performance is in no way affected -A/C does not work too well, if at all anymore -No rear defrost (has grid, but surface was scraped off when rear window tint was removed) -Accelerator cable is rusting, causes pedal drag at times (no, this is not part of the recall, haha) -Clutch pedal bushing is wearing out (causes pedal to make slight popping noise at times) -Normal wear and tear as you would expect from 25 year old car with 240k miles -Rebuilt engine has always made slight ticking noise (wrist pin perhaps) but has not gotten any worse after 3000 miles -No back seats (see pictures) -No interior trim in back of vehicle (see pictures) -Starter just clicks at times but always starts vehicle after a couple attempts (hasn't done it since the engine swap) -Key can be pulled out of ignition switch in any position, even when the car is running (It's kind of fun, actually.....here, you drive, haha) -No clutch start safety switch (had remote engine starter at one point) -Hatch falls down without strut clamping tool (hatch struts need replaced) -Rear end pinion bearing is barely starting to sound like its going out -Speedometer not totally accurate (says vehicle is going 10-15mph faster than actual speed) -Both front headlight trim pieces cracked (see pictures) -Top coat of epoxy on carbon fiber hood is fading -Front bumper damage due to hitting a coyote at 65mph (D'oh!) (see pictures) -Lower left corner of radiator support cracked when hitting the coyote -Vehicle was rear-ended by a Peterbuilt at slow speeds (March '09) that required tail light assembly replacement, rear bumper replacement, and rear panel straightening and repainting. No damage done to hatch or rear quarter panels. The car was considered totaled, and I bought it back from my insurance company. OTHER NOTES: All pictures were taken April 10, 2010. This car has been my daily driver for 2.5 years. I rebuilt the current 4age engine about 7 years ago. It was from a 1987 MR2 and had about 120k miles on it. After rebuilding it with the parts and machining described above I installed it back into the MR2. I put about 2000 miles on the engine then junked the MR2 but removed the engine and kept it on a stand in the garage for the next few years. I purchased the AE86 in August of 2007. After putting up with the engine smoke long enough, I decided to revisit the 4age I had built. I removed the cylinder head and went through the engine with a fine-tooth comb, replacing all seals and gaskets since it had been sitting for so long. I performed the engine swap at work (Peoria Toyota) in December 2009. I decided I was spending too much time and money on the AE86 so I bought an '01 IS300 that I can just drive and do oil changes on 'til the cows come home. Overall, the AE86 runs and idles great (aside from the annoying, if not worrisome, ticking noise). It is much peppier than the stock 4age that was in it. It's really hard to have a project car that's also your daily driver. I wish I could keep it. I just don't have time. Please be good to it. I can include the old 4age long block assembly (see picture, engine was smoking badly, can be rebuilt and reused) Feel free to contact me or e-mail me with any questions or comments. I have more pictures and can take additional pictures and e-mail them to you if you'd like. Call or text Andy at (309) 840-1761. Happy bidding.
