Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on my 1983 911 SC in "Ruby Red Metallic." I purchased the case in June of 2008 from a fellow in Atlanta who is a salesman at a local Porsche dealer (it was his personal car). He took excellent care of the car, making smart upgrades and keeping the car in good working order. Here are some of the details on the car. The good: the car runs and drives great. Brakes are strong, with a good firm pedal action. Drives straight with no alignment issues. The clutch feels good and has good action. The transmission is in excellent condition, too. If you are not familiar with the transmission on the SC series 911's, but they can be a weak point - not with this car. I've had other long time Porsche enthusiasts drive the car and report that it shifts great. That being said, if you're not accustomed to these transmissions, it does take some practice to get the hang of shifting the car. The tires were purchase in 2008 when I bought the car and are Khumo Ecsta's. The interior is in good shape and presents well. The original seats were replaced with power sport seats from a circa 1985 Carrera - although power has not been run to the passenger seat (it can be manually adjusted). The steering wheel was also similarly replaced. The dash is in good condition, although there is some fading, and one small, 2 inch crack towards the middle (picture available). The stereo is an aftermarket Sony CD player unit with an "aux' input - the face it detachable. Sounds good. The car has been lowered to Euro specs - nothing drastic - using the usual bump-steer kit, etc. My understanding is that in 1983 the US bumper standards were such that the car was required to be raised to be compliant for the US market - the lowering here was meant to bring it back to "true" Porsche specs. The car does not run hot and has an external oil cooler added with a manual switch added. I have needed it only a few times, when it was very hot and I was in stop and go traffic using the air conditioner. The air conditioner is operational, but it needs a charge. Typical of older molder 911's, the AC is somewhat anemic, but works reasonably well. The compressor was replaced with a York, factory style unit, prior to me buying the car in June of 2008. If you live in a hot climate and plan on using this as a daily driver, you may want to consider upgrading to a rotary compressor, etc. The automatic heater works well. The power windows, sunroof and mirrors work well. The glass is all in good shape, as is the rubber. The bad: The biggest issue is probably the paint. The car presents well, and I get compliments any time I drive it. Nevertheless, it has a fair amount of rock chips in the front, and the hood (and possibly other panels) have been re-sprayed. I think it looks great, and for the price, when I bought the car I was happy that my money was going to a solid car rather than one with a new paint job and questionable mechanics. The Fuchs rims are in similar shape - I have cleaned them up and they look pretty good, but if the car was painted, I would also send the wheels to be refurbished. There is a CV boot that needs to be replaced as it is cracked. Although there is an occasional puff of smoke on start up after the car has been sitting for awhile, it does not smoke while running. It does use about 1/2 to 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles, which is typical. From looking at the condition of the spark plugs on removal, my mechanic has indicated that he believes the #4 cylinder is burning oil, but it has not affected performance nor created any smoke while driving that I can notice. The car runs a little rough at initial start up, which my mechanic has indicated may be a faulty warm up regulator. The windshield washer (and the headlight washers) as well as the cruise control do not work. The struts that hold the engine lid up when it is raised are weak and need replacing. Also, one of the small leather straps that secures the rear seat back has snapped. The car is sold "as is" and "where is" - any shipping must be arranged for by buyer, although I'm happy to assist on my end to getting the car a reasonable distance. The title is clear, but in the hands of the finance company. Upon completion of sale I will provide a notarized Bill of Sale and confirmation that the payoff has been sent to the finance company. I'm told it should take no more than 10 business days for the title to be released. I don't have complete service records, but I do have a large stack that cover a good deal of the car's history. Included is a Certificate of Authenticity issued by Porsche that gives the detailed specs of the car as delivered by the factory. The pictures shown are a bit out of date (from previous seller) so you will want to see new pictures - I hope to post new ones in a day or so. Also, the pictures here were taken before the tires were changed, the wheels detailed, etc. Otherwise, it will look the same. I'm a local PCA member and the car is a weekend toy for me, so it has seen few miles since I bought it and spends most of its life covered in my carport. (The cover will go with the sale, by the way.) Two small children and "life" have caused me to want to move on to a car I can drive every day with my 2 year old and 5 year old in tow. Happy bidding! On Apr-15-10 at 22:09:43 PDT, seller added the following information: Note: the transmission has a short shift kit and was rebuilt by German Auto Repair prior to my acquisition of the car in 2008.
