1963 Buick Electra 225 Convertible To learn a bit more about me and Motoring Investments click on the "me" icon next to my feedback number(also check my feedback). Note eBay pulled my initial listing due to either the link to the youtube video or because I said I accepted wire transfers (I'm still trying to figure it out myself). Sorry everyone. Here it is again starting at the last high bid and no reserve. The 1963 Buick Electra 225 Convertible was one of the best models launched by the Buick division of General Motors and received worldwide attention. The convertible was a revision of the standard models launched that year. One of the major features introduced in the 1963 Buick Electra 225 Convertible was the flexibly operating roof that can be converted to open air or enclosed modes in seconds. Another important feature was power operated glass side windows and the 401 cu in (6.6 L) engine. The "Nailhead" was Buick's muscle car power plant of choice.EMAIL ME FOR A LINK TO OUR DRIVING VIDEO The Buick Electra 225 nameplate references the car's overall length of 225 inches. That earned it the street name " deuce and a quarter". This Buick 225 convertible is a lifetime resident of warm, dry San Diego, California. It was purchased new by Eugene Swantz Jr. in San Diego, CA who later sold it to Ms. Ruth Gordon sometime around the year 1966. The car lived a pampered life with Ms. Gordon until we purchased it from her estate. Click on this link to watch the Buick 225 cruising the beach and dropping its top: For undercarriage and interior pictures scroll down to the bottom of page. The Electra is ready to cruise. We recently performed a complete brake service. That included all new wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake booster and brake hoses. We also cleaned the fuel system, rebuilt the carburetor, performed an ignition tune up, flushed engine lubrication system, changed engine oil and filter, as well as cleaned and replaced hydraulic fluid in convertible top motor and serviced the electric top hydraulics. We do suggest that the tires be replaced as although they look nearly new with deep tread, in reality they are quite old. Scroll down for our interior and undercarriage photos. With an economical paint job that was done 30-odd years ago and the fact that Ruth was probably "driving by braille" the last last few years of her driving career, expect some flaws in the finish and chrome. Fully functional electric soft top - Check the video! The convertible top frame and liner show well. We found this swizzle stick under the seats. This world famous hotel made headlines with the Monroe movie. We can imagine Ms. Gordon strolling down the beautiful Coronado beach with her iced tea (or adult beverage) and enjoying the movie star lifestyle. The rear seats still sport their original factory leather which is a bit hard now. The rear windows raise and lower with the flip of a switch. The carpet looks in good shape. The rear radio speaker and courtesy lights work well. Both front seats and seatbelts. Both front seats were redone in vinyl sometime ago and have some splits at the seams. (an easy fix at any upholstery shop) For most upholstery shops it's a easy job to do. The door panels have window controls for both the driver and passenger allowing the side glass to raise and lower with ease. The driver's seat is electrically adjustable. The attractive gauge display compliments the rest of the interior nicely. The clock, fuel gauge, odometer, trip mile counter, horn, and dual speed wipers work well. The interior courtesy lights, radio, antenna switches all function well, along with the cigarette lighter and center dash speaker. The glove box light and truck release button inside made life a little easier back then and still do today. Notice the tissue box dispenser with the Buick logo. The second hand in the speedometer gauge is the speed warning buzzer. Set it to the desired number, and if you happen to exceed that number a slight buzzer noise reminds you to decrease your speed. The speedometer, warning buzzer, odometer and trip mileage counter all function properly. Records the previous owner kept indicate the engine was completely rebuilt about 38,000 miles ago. This engine became known as the "Nailhead" for the unusual vertical position of its small-sized valves—which looked like nails. The Nailhead-V8 family employed a camshaft with higher lift and longer duration to offset the smaller-sized valves and arguably restrictive intake and exhaust-port areas. The small-size valves and intake runners made for engines with a lot of torque, with many exceeding one foot-pound per cubic inch, which was exceptional for the day. The "Wildcat 445" has a single 4 barrel carb "Wildcat 445" these inscriptions indicated not the cubic inches displaced but the ft·lbs of torque produced by the engine. The trunk and its cardboard panels with patterned lining. The underside of trunk displays original paint. The following are the photos I wish all sellers provided. Some folks toss around the phrase "rust-free" without even having had a look underneath their car. These pictures are just behind the front wheels. Notice the heat shield material still in place, located between the exhaust and wheel well cover. Above and below is our attempt to display and describe all areas of the car. These pictures show the remarkable condition of the floor pans and frame. Examine the floor pans and rocker panels. Just ahead of the rear wheels at the dogleg. The bottom of the rear fenders. Here is another view of these remarkable floor pans. Both floor pans appear dry and structurally sound. Here is a picture of Ruth Gordon and her pride and joy. She pampered this car for about 40 years. My main business is restoring European cars for other people. I have been licensed and bonded to sell automobiles in California for 23 years. I know cars and know how to describe them accurately. I have bought a number of cars on EBay and most were misrepresented either intentionally or unintentionally. I won’t do that to you. If there is information that is important to your purchase and you don’t see it in my description please ask. My direct phone number is listed below. Also, you may want to go to my web site to see the types of cars I have sold and the quality of the restorations that we do. (Click "Client Restorations" along the left side of the screen.) Just Google “Motoring Investments” or go to my eBay "me" page for the link. This car will be sold under California regulations. On Apr-21-10 at 19:57:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Just to be clear, the previous owner, Ruth Gordon, was not the Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning actress "Ruth Gordon" who died in 1985.
