Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1978 S/E Trans Am. This is a PHS documented special edition (see pic) that went through a complete professional frame-off restoration 3-4 years ago. I have put approximately 1000 miles on it since...maybe less. It has never been driven in the rain and is always garaged. Here are some details: During the restoration everything was taken down to bare metal. The frame, radiator support, inner fenders, etc. along with various other exterior pieces were then coated with POR-15 to protect from future rust. Most of the body was assembled using stainless steel bolts and washers and treated with anti-seize prior to assembly. All of the brake and fuel lines are stainless steel as well. The bushings were replaced with polyurethane. The car was painted and cleared using Spies Hecker paint products. The decals and pin striping are from Phoenix Graphics. The wheels were stripped, turned, painted, and cleared by The Hubcap and Wheel Store in St. Louis, MO. The trunk was sprayed with a special water-proof coating. The interior was more or less completely gutted. Almost everything was replaced with the exception of the back seats and carpet which were in good shape. Front seats (re-upholstered), door panels, dash, rear panels, rear shelf, center console, sill plates, pedal rubbers, weatherstripping (including t-top), headliner, etc was all replaced. I also added a rear defroster by installing a rear glass with grid and adding the wiring harness. The windshield is new along with the passenger side window. Audio is a Sony radio and C/D player with rear 6x9 Rockford Fosgate speakers. I did not install front speakers because I didn't want to cut anything but the wiring is there. The motor is not numbers matching however it is a 77 Pontiac 400 block with 6X heads so it's the correct type of motor the car came with. It was professionally built by Len Williams out of Tulsa, OK and is estimated to have 385 HP however I've not had it on a dyno to verify (my intent was not to race the car). My goal was to have a car with good street manners and some impressive power, which it has! The carburetor was rebuilt by Cliff Ruggles at Cliff's Q-Jet. The rear end is a posi 3.23 so it has a good balance of street and highway power. I have detailed information on the motor and the rest of the drive train so please ask if you need this information. Just a few more things to add. The suspension has new springs, front and rear, shocks, ball joints, rebuilt WS6 steering box, steering linkage, etc. The A/C works properly and blows cold! The cruise control system is all there but is not hooked up so I don't know if it would work. Please do not expect this car to be absolutely perfect! What you can expect is no rust, leaks, dings, dents, scratches, or mechanical issues. It needs nothing except to be driven or shown. The pictures speak for themselves as does my feedback score but I welcome you to come and see it in person before bidding. For those of you looking for a documented "Bandit T/A" with much more power than stock with the ability to drive it around town, this is it. Also, for those of you considering buying a distressed T/A to restore or a "well preserved" original, don't! Unless of course, you're filthy rich, retired, not married, drink a lot of whiskey, a bit crazy and have a lot of patience. All of the work on this car has already been completed and you can buy it for much less than it will cost you to restore your own while also saving you the time and headaches. It was never my intention to sell her but the economy has taken its on me financially so unfortunately it has to go. There's no question someone will own it for less than half of what I've invested so my loss will truly be your gain. Please do not ask me what my reserve is. I will answer any questions you may have as quickly as I can. Happy bidding!
