NO RESERVE This auction is for a real dream car, a 1994 BMW 540i performance sedan. I have always loved the E34 style BMW 5-Series (any BMW 5-Series from 1988-1995). I have owned many, many BMWs and somehow always lost out on buying a genuinely nice E34. Just to illustrate what a die hard BMW enthusiast I am (and therefore take excellent care of them), I have owned a 1984 325e, a 1985 325e, a 1988 325i Convertible, a 1993 325i Convertible, a 1991 318i Convertible, a 1996 Z3, a 2001 Z3, a 2000 Z3, a 1986 525i, a 2004 X3, a 2005 X3, a 2004 325ci, a 1994 325i Convertible, a 1995 325i Convertible, a 1990 325i Convertible!! As you can see, I have always been a BMW guy, as such I know how to take care of them and always give them the proper attention that they deserve. The car in question is an Alpine White (that is the factory BMW name for this color) over Black Leather 540i. The 540i is a fairly hard car to come by. It was BMW’s top of the line 5-Series, with the largest engine (this car has a ton of power). You just don’t see a lot of them out there, especially for sale. It truly is an impressive vehicle. The only reason that it is for sale is that I just bought another BMW 3-Series convertible and already have three cars and a BMW motorcycle in the garage, so the last car I bought is the first to be sold (very sad for me). When I bought this car, I became the third owner. Here is this car’s story. I bought this car from a co-worker, who is the brother of the original owner. The car was driven as a daily driver from 1994-2007. In 2005 the original owner had a brand new BMW Engine and Transmission installed in it. He did not have a rebuild done; he actually paid for all new BMW factory parts!! Shortly thereafter, he suffered some substantial financial set backs and decided to sell the car to his brother (my co-worker). In 2007 it went into storage (but was started and moved every two weeks). My co-worker let me know that he was planning on selling it, since he knew I was a real BMW nut. I had seen the car before and always thought it looked nice. So, I purchased it from him. I replaced several things and added some nice modern / upscale features to it during my short ownership. I bought it down in Southern California where I have my vacation home and then drove it the eight hours to Northern California where I live most of the year. Like mentioned above, I have had several things done to the car. Below is a list of most of them (I’m sure to forget some): A New Interior Cabin Pollen Filter was installed (this acts as an Air Purifier for all outside air entering the car) A New Water Pump was installed A New Upper Radiator Hose was installed A New Driver’s Side Sunvisor was purchased from BMW & installed A full service, inspection & oil change was preformed A new trunk carpet panel was installed (the original one had a small stain on it, I am pretty picky about things like that) A factory BMW front bumper trim piece was installed to cover where the front license plate is supposed to go (I do have the front plate and the installation bracket that will go with the car). All new Bulbs for the On-Board Computer A new top-of-the-line stereo system (Am/Fm, CD Player) was installed and I had all new stereo system wiring installed at that time too. Front Brake Rotors (discs) and pads A new factory BMW Flex Disc was installed. A new factory BMW Center Bearing was installed. A new Gas Door Hinge assembly was bought through BMW and installed. A Brand New Battery was installed. All of the Power Seat Motors and cables were replaced with Brand New Factory Units (talk about expensive) The Power Headrest motors and cables were all replaced as well. I then had the carpets professionally cleaned. So now, everything functions perfectly and looks great! The front Power Windows all work excellently, the AC blows Ice Cold, the Power Moonroof Tilts and Slides perfectly, the Central Locking System functions perfectly, the Heater is nice and warm, all power seats function like new (because they are new), basically everything seems to function perfectly. All lights, flashers and signals work great, the Fog Lights function just fine (which is a rarity among these cars), all gauges work perfectly, and the rear window defrost works perfectly as well. What can I say? It’s all there and it works! This car has the following standard features: Power Front Windows Cruise Control Power Mirrors Power Locks Power Tilt & Slide Moonroof Leather Interior Power Steering Power Brakes Fog Lights Projector Headlights On-Board Computer (Temperature Reading, Average Fuel Consumption Reading, Miles left Until Empty Feature, Trip Computer Ability, Stop Watch Feature, Time Reading, Date Reading, Speed Warning Feature, Coded Vehicle Protection Feature and more) System Check Computer (monitors important vehicle features and reports any problems that may arise with the vehicle) Service Interval Computer (informs you when an Oil Change / Service is coming due, what it is due and when and if it has been surpassed) Power operated 14-Way Adjustable Seats (including power headrests) Captains chairs with individually adjustable armrests 15” BBS Alloy Wheels Full-Size Spare Mounted on BMW Alloy Wheel Premium Sound System Central Locking System Keyless Entry System with Alarm There is probably a lot more, but I just can’t recall right now! In addition to the above mentions repairs and upgrades, I have added a couple of touches myself to make this 1994 a bit more like it’s newer family members. Like mentioned earlier, I installed a really nice high-end Sony In-Dash CD Sound System (with all new wiring). This stereo plays CD’s, MP3’S, CD-R and CDRW. For those who do not know, European E34s had rear seat Head Rests. I love this look as it looks very Euro and provides for a much more comfortable rear seat experience, it also makes these cars look more modern as all of the newer (starting in 1996) 5-Series have them as standard equipment. So, I ordered the kit from Germany and installed the OEM rear seat leather headrests into this car!! These really add a custom / modern / European look to the car!! I also bought a brand new rear seat fold-out armrest unit. The 7-Series cars have a very nice armrest that has a built-in storage compartment. The 5-Series just had a plain ol’ armrest, no compartment. So, I ordered a new matching black leather 7-Series armrest with the built-in storage compartment. This car has always driven beautifully! That was the primary reason that I could look past the initial (above mentioned) issues to purchase it. The 4.0 Liter V8 engine runs very strong n’ smooth and the Transmission shifts flawlessly (in Automatic Mode, Sport Mode or Winter Mode). I am blown away by the power of this car, it is absolutely amazing!! I guess it should come as no surprise, it has well over 300 horsepower! This car handles like a tight sports car but drives like a sophisticated luxury car. I can see no faults or flaws in the way this vehicle drives. As a maintenance measure, I had an oil change, and coolant system flush shortly after I bought it. This car is now 16 years old and it has right around 45,000 miles on all of the new components. Keep in mind, the car received a Brand New Engine and a Brand New Transmission not too long before I bought it (I have all of the receipts). This was another key factor in my purchasing of it! The original owner noted that there was nothing wrong with the original engine, he just did it as a safety measure because he planned to keep the car forever. I have always had this car in a garage and I have driven it nearly everyday and sometimes all day (on fun trips) and it has never had the slightest problem. If you know BMWs at all, I am sure you are aware that these cars are famous for traveling 350,000+ miles on their original engines before needing any major work. That is good to know because this one only has 45,000 miles on its engine and transmission!! The previous owner also had new shocks/struts and shock boots installed too!! So, the drive train is new, as-is most of the suspension components!! How great is that?!? I suppose you all might be wondering what this car needs to have everything functioning perfectly. Being a 16 year old car, there are one or two things that it could benefit from. The rear windows like to stick a bit when going up. I had BMW check this out and the motors, tracks and regulators are wall fine. The bind against a rubber seal. It is an easy (and free) fix but I just never got around to doing it. I can show you how to do it if you like. It needs a new driver’s side center bearing which is only $24 through BMW. Other then those two things, I can’t really think of anything needed. Two weeks ago I had it smog tested in the state of California and it passed with flying colors! Being a 16 year old car it does have a few small little chips on the front and two small door dings. They are nothing major and do not even show in photos, I just want to be 100% up front with any potential buyers. Included is the Original Cases, Books, Booklets, Pamphlets, Service Cards, Manuals and Catalogs, two factory keys, the BBS Wheels center cap removal tool, the original BMW brand trunk cargo straps, all of the original BMW trunk mounted tools, a set of original BMW floor mats, service receipts and records for all of the above mentioned repairs and services, the original front plate mounting bracket and more, I think that just about sums it all up.
