Vehicle Detail
One-owner low-mileage great commuter car that needs minor work. Perfect for a mechanic or DIY'er who has more time on his/her hands than I do. We bought this car brand new, so I'm happy to share its full history with you. We've taken good care of the car mechanically so it should have many miles left on the drivetrain. Cosmetically, it's fairly good except that the clear coat has come off the roof. There are dings and scratches to the paint but nothing unusual for a car this age. The interior is very clean but not entirely flawless; no worn-out fabric or anything like that and no signs of abuse. We had one accident with the car many years ago that I expect will show up on the CarFax or similar history search. The right front end was hit by a Chevy Silverado, requiring some significant repair but the air bags did not deploy. We also had one door and the rear bumper cover repainted after parking lot scuffs but I don't think those will show on the CarFax. Because I'm a car geek, I had a top-notch shop complete the repairs. It's been extremely reliable with the exception of the hybrid drive battery pack that may have failed prematurely, but after the warranty expired, and a related error code. I monkeyed around with having the battery pack repaired and I even replaced some of the modules myself. Nevertheless, I kept getting error codes that suggested a battery problem. I took it to my local Toyota dealer, who told me that the battery pack needed to be replaced. I replaced the battery with a guaranteed rebuilt battery pack from Dorman Industries (importantly, a REPUTABLE rebuilder). However, this did not solve the error codes that the Toyota dealer said were due to a bad battery. I finally took it to a real Prius expert who told me that the Skid Control ECU module needs to be replaced. Not wanting to spend $1,500 on the brand new module from Toyota, I got a used one from a wrecking yard and planned to install it myself. It's an easy but time-consuming job, so I let the car sit until I had time. And sit. And sit. And sit. I now finally admit that I don't have time to replace the module myself and because this is an extra car it's not worth it to me to pay somebody to do it. Thus, here's your opportunity! Unfortunately, while the car was patiently waiting for me to replace the Skid Control ECU, I let the registration lapse. The registration was paid through July 2018. When I've sold cars in the past, I've often been asked, "Can I drive it home?" For this car, I'd comfortably drive it anywhere ... but for you to do so you'll need to get a one-day permit to operate it from the DMV or AAA. Even though I would drive it anywhere, I cannot say that YOU should drive it anywhere -- I'm just sharing my opinion, not making a promise. Because it's been sitting, I had to jump start the car today. It immediately ran fine, but I cannot promise that the 12-volt battery doesn't need to be replaced. I'll charge the 12-volt battery before the listing ends, so the car should start when you're ready to pick it up ... but again no promises on the 12-volt battery. I'm selling this car at No Reserve to the highest bidder. CarMax recently offered me $1,500 for it so you can infer from that how much I'd like to get for it. Nevertheless, because I'm big into eBay I promise that I will not cancel the listing even if I'm not achieving my target price. It will sell as-is to the highest bidder. Period. Bid with confidence.
