Vehicle Detail

1964 Ford Fairlane 500 I have owned since 2013. It has been a very durable and wonderful family car and daily driver. I bought the car from a man in Wyoming with 137,000 miles on it. The car runs and drives well and is inspected in Pennsylvania until 11/18. In 2015 the camshaft bearing of the 289 engine went bad and scarred the camshaft so I put a re-manufactured 302 engine in. The odometer on the car stopped working in 2016 and I replaced it with a working used stock odometer in 2017. By my estimation driving 50 miles/day 5 days a week this engine has about 65,000 miles on it. The title is clear. Please watch the video I made in the link below where there are many more pictures and a video walk around of the entire vehicle. I am selling the car for two reasons, the primary reason is that we have just had another child and I will need and additional seat. I would like to find the exact same year and model but a station wagon. The other reason is that on mornings below 70 degrees when I pull out of my driveway the transmission slips and takes about 2 minutes to get going, also about once a week if I accelerate from a stop too quickly the transmission will clunk but will not slip out of gear, I just let off the gas and re accelerate and the issue resolves. The car had just begun to slip out of gear at initial startup this summer, after releasing gas and reapplying slowly it will catch, after the car is hot (about 5 mins) I do not slip the rest of my travels. I have been driving the car everyday howbeit this issue and it gets me around well. If you buy this car you should make the presumption that the transmission will need rebuilt or replaced in the not too distant future. I have driven this car very gently, never raced or burnt out the tires or anything foolish, nonetheless because of the miles and behavior in the winter I would predict that the transmission will not sustain the next 10K miles. The car runs and drives well and can be driven home withstanding that the horn does not work, the brake pedal is at about 40%, and the steering is a bit loose; an explanation of these issues is provided below and in the video. I am listing everything of the car I can possibly think of below, all issues good and bad. I sincerely want to make an honest sell as-is. I would be happy to reply to any questions with photos, videos, or text. The Bad-The transmission has almost 200,000 miles on it, slips only in the winter when it is below 40 degrees during startup and initial acceleration, and clunks about once a week all year if accelerating from a stop too quick. -Center link, front shocks, and bushings should need replaced because steering is loose.-Front passenger side tire will need replaced to pass PA inspection.-Horn does not work. (see video in link) (Horn failure occurred when I replaced the turn signal switch behind the steering wheel. There was a horn contact spring I did replace and the horn would not sound but only click. Then I replaced the horn relay and do not get any click. Using a voltmeter would diagnose the problem.) -Rear leaf springs need replaced. -Rear main seal leaks about a Qt. of oil a month.-Windshield has wiper scratch (see video in link)-Significant rust on rear fenders has been sanded then stuffed and filled with fiberglass but not finished.-Exhaust Y-pipe prone to replacement within next 10k miles (see video in link) -Gas gauge does not work. (I installed a new fuel float and stock gas gauge in 2018 however the gauge does not work, I am almost certain it is the wire between the gauge and the float.)-Thermostat housing bolt is stripped(see photo) (It has a slow leak that puddles about once a month, I have included a photo of how the puddle occurs at about the end of the month. To re-tap this bolt you will need to remove the water pump housing.)-Brake pads should be replaced, pedal is at about 40%.-Cosmetic scratches and dents. (see photos)-Interior floor board in the front are strong but rusted. (see photos), back seat floor boards are spotless.-Upholstery is ripped in the front and rear, as well as trim and door panels. (see video in link)-Headliner is ripped with holes (see photos)-Right window has tendency to fall into door, currently can be retrieved and wound up.
