This is a very clean and well 'refreshed' Cougar XR7. With a beautiful repaint in the factory Deep Gold Metallic this Merc is stunning. The color is complimented by the Dark Tobacco Vinyl Top. The body on this XR7 is beautiful. The panels are very straight, fitments and gaps are excellent and the paint has a deep shine. The bright trim looks very nice as well. The top was recently replaced with the correct color and grain material. This Cougar is easily nice enough for your weekend shows or as a sunny day driver. When you open the door the first thing you notice is the smell. If you have ever even ridden in an XR7 Cougar of this vintage, the smell brings and instant flood of memories. The Dark Tobacco leather is still in great condition with a beautiful color, soft feel and comfortable cushioning. The dash has a full compliment of gauges including a 120mph Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Pressure, Temperature and Amp. Rocker switches in the dash center give you a great look and a handy way to control all the extra interior lighting the deluxe Mercs came with. Under the hood, the 351 Cleveland is the 2V offering producing 250 Horsepower. The engine runs excellent with plenty of low end power. It sounds just like it should with a nice deep idle but a quiet note inside the car. The transmission goes into gear quickly and shifts nicely. Cougars received some different components than their Ford counterparts. Mainly they used a full insulator on the rear springs to keep ride quality and sound insulation to a higher level. The rates of all the springs were Cougar specific formulas and these cars ride very nice while still being able handle in corners.
