They have been Land Cruiser enthusiasts and owners for 20+ years; owning an FJ40, FJ62 and this FZJ80. They have been active in the local Utah chapter of the TLCA (Toyota Land Cruiser Association) since its inception and have been wheeling with the club ever since. Unfortunately, with Ray’s progressing Parkinson’s Disease, he can no longer enjoy the use of this beautiful 80 series. They purchased the truck in October 2006 with 106353 miles on it, for mild rock crawling and desert exploration. Ray and Linda have used the truck as a 3rd vehicle, mostly for exploring the desert and trails, and averaging under 5k miles per year while they've owned it. It has always been garaged and always taken care of. For the majority of its life with Ray and Linda, any mechanical work was handled by a close friend and Toyota Master Technician (then he went and moved to Japan with Toyota). You would be hard pressed to find an 80 series in as good of overall condition. The interior is fantastic for the age. The leather is solid and with a good conditioning could be brought back to full softness. The power front seat adjustments all work well. The moonroof slides and tilts as designed. The carpets are clean, stain-free with no visible wear. The factory carpeted mats are in good condition, but the driver’s mat is missing. 3 of the 4 door panels are perfect, with the 4th just having a small tear which has been repaired. All electrical works as it should, including the factory power antenna! It even has the factory stereo, so no butchered wiring. The air conditioning works perfect and blows very cold. Both front and rear heaters work. None of the windows struggle to go up or down. Ray and Linda drove the truck as any retired couple would, gently. The truck got used off-road, but was never abused. Beside the rear fender flare, no body damage has ever been done. Overall the paint shines nicely and has no issues, except the rear fender flare could be paint-matched a bit better. There are some dings and dents in the exhaust piping, scrapes on the sliders and bumpers, and you can see where the trail may have gotten a bit tight with cedars, or sage branches. Ray built a platform/storage box for the cargo area of the truck and removed the 3rd row seats and seat belts. The box works well as a sleeping platform with the middle row of seats folded. The 3rd row seats have been in storage for the last 12 years and are perfect. Of course, they will be included in the sale. Ray has painstakingly touched up the sliders, bumpers and other little details. This really is his pride and joy truck; he will be crushed to see it go. I would not hesitate to take this truck cross town or cross country. The truck is close to Salt Lake International Airport and we can make arrangements to pick you up and drive home. Or we will do whatever we need to to help facilitate getting the truck to your transporter, within reason. I have owned more than a dozen Land Cruisers myself, including two 80 series. After driving this truck, my impressions are these: · The paint is fantastic. There is not one dent or door-ding on the body. It is straight as can be. The clear coat has zero issues. There is some slight “desert pin-striping” visible if you look closely at certain angles, but with some polishing you could likely remove it all, if that is important to you. · The interior is better than any 80 series I have been in, that hasn’t been redone. The steering wheel leather is amazing; a testament to garaging a vehicle. The front seat leather is a little stiff on some panels but nothing that a good conditioner couldn’t handle. · An 80 series drives like a truck, because that is what it is! This is no exception. It does not drive or handle like my 100 series, but my 100 series can’t handle rock crawling like this 80 can! That said, it is still a pleasant, comfortable ride. · There is some driveline slop when shifting from drive to reverse and vice-versa. This is typical for an 80 series and is usually attributed to some wear in the slip joints or u-joints. When I had it up on my lift, I could detect some slight play in the slip joints. The truck is completely usable/drive-able with this, it’s just a little nosier when shifting from drive-reverse. Likely some PTFE grease on the splines would quiet it down. · The engine sounds and feels totally solid. These motors are built for a 4-500k mile service life and they commonly achieve this milestone. · The front axle seals and bearings were done in 2016 and hardly any mileage has been put on since then. This is a huge service, and nice to have recently done. · There are some minor "TLC" kind of details that a new owner will probably want to fix if he/she wants a perfect rig. o The ARB compressor is puking some diff fluid when engaged. This is a common issue and ARB has a device that can be added to prevent this. o The small lights mounted on the bullbar do not work and could be removed. o The dinged-up exhaust piping could be replaced, but it makes no noticeable difference. o The winch cable should be pulled out and rewound in layers. o Source a carpeted drivers mat. o Replace rear jack/tool panel, the bottom tab is broken, so the bottom part of it sticks out a little bit. (I may actually have one, from a former rig. If I can find it it will be included) o The right rear fender flare was damaged off-road, replaced with a used flare, and painted to match. There was no metal body damage, but the paint could be better matched on the flare.
