Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1999 E300TD. This is a good car perfect for a younger driver. E300 are built like tanks and they have airbags. I bought it at around 100K miles and we've put 140K on it since then. This was my daughters car from High School through college and then some. We were going to do some work on it and then she moved off to the big city and doesn't need a car anymore. We don't need it, so rather than mess with it, we're selling it. The highlights are the diesel engine gets good fuel economy (over 30mpg) and is a work horse; most everything works as described later; there is a Kenwood aftermarket stereo which has a built in microphone and blue tooth so they can have hands free driving; and it is after all a Mercedes. Plus included are front and rear brake pads set - brand new and the front have wear sensors with them. In the trunk is a Mercedes work shop transmission dipstick which is hard to get. I also have the correct tool for pulling the oil filter housing. I also have the glow plug hole reamer tool from when I replaced them. I will include all the specialized tools and anything else I can find around the garage (misc parts etc) for it, but at least the two tools mentioned are included. Plus there are two new keys for this car. It has some minor issues, after all the car is 19 years old: the left rear outside door latch rarely opens the door. The inside works fine. I think the catch mechanism is worn and it needs a new outer latch. Two of the doors no longer work with the lock/unlock button which is probably a vacuum problem. The AC works but will need to be recharged at least annually. It held the charge most of the summer. The dealer said the leak is at the compressor shaft seals. The DUO valve that controls heat left to right needs to be cleaned from time to time otherwise the driver side air can blow warm. (I was looking into putting a little ball valve to bypass that setup). Every once in a while it won't start when you turn the key. This is cleared by turning it off and then trying again. This appears to be mechanical. Been that way for many years. It rattles a bunch under the hood at idle which disappears once you start to move. The passenger side hood latch doesn't like to latch anymore. But the driver and the center latch still work. The headliner on the sun roof cover has pulled away. The dealer wants to pull the whole ceiling for some crazy price. It should be a quick fix with upholstery adhesive. There is a small paint bubble (see the last picture) behind the right front wheel - that's the only sign of rust on the whole car I found. Last, the clear coat is peeling. About 8 years ago the clear coat was sanded and reapplied. It is now peeling. The color underneath looks fine. I don't have the shop to do it, but a quick sand on the top and another shot of clear coat and it should look just fine. The pictures show the condition of the car. The VA inspection expired in January and I was waiting until it got warmer for the brakes. That was the only thing I was planning to do to it to pass again. Please read everything carefully before you bid - I want us both to be happy with this transaction. If you can fix up some of the issues this would be a good car for a new driver. This car is sold as-is. All sales final. This car will need to be picked up from the zip code 20112. It can be driven away. Winning bidder will need to send a $1000 deposit via paypal. I will take cash only for any outstanding balance beyond that amount or you can send the full amount via Paypal.
