For sale is a 2004 Subaru Forester XT (Turbo). It was a great car up until 2 weeks ago. I'll tell you everything I know about it, but if you have any questions please send me a message. First, the car is in good shape inside and out (except the motor - please read below). The outside paint is great. It spent a lot of years in Arizona, so it hasn't seen much snow. I bought the vehicle from a friend about 9 months ago and I know he took very good care of it (he is also available to answer questions). There is really no rust on it and it has never been in an accident. There are a few nicks and dings here and there from grocery carts, but nothing major. It looks good on the outside. The only real issue is the sunroof which stopped working properly a few years ago. I never touched it because it didn't leak and I didn't want to open it and not be able to seal it again. The tires look good. There is plenty of tread left. Inside, the car is used but there is nothing glaring. Everything looks and works as it should. It has the original stereo and sub in it. The leather looks good and the carpet is clean. All of the windows, locks, cruise, etc work fine. Nothing is broken and to my knowledge everything is original. The motor... When I bought it, the car needed a new head gasket. Apparently this is a typical problem for Subarus around 150k. I took the car to Monty's Motors in Sierra Vista, Arizona and they did the work for me in October. From October until last month, everything was great. One day the vehicle had difficulty accelerating. I had just returned from about a 2.5 hour drive so I took it to the mechanic. It was low on oil but not empty. They looked it over, filled up the oil and started it. It smoked significantly from the exhaust. They diagnosed it as a broken piston ring that resulted in the engine burning oil. The price they quoted was more than I wanted to put into a 2004 so I shopped around. I was in the middle of planning a move, so I shipped it to Virginia. After having an opportunity to discuss it with my wife, looked everything over on the internet, discussed with others, etc we decided it wasn't worth the extra money. The mechanic told me it basically needs a new engine. If you have an engine and know what you are doing, this could be a great car for you. I have neither!
