Vehicle Detail

Hello, This is a NO RESERVE auction for my 1970 Porsche 914 1.7l. This early example retains its original color, fuel injected 1.7l motor and 5 speed transmission. The car has 108k original miles and has been garaged for most of its life -- very little rust. I have owned this vehicle for about three years and it has been a pleasure. I am its 3rd owner. This 914 is a turn-key driver and can be enjoyed as is. During my ownership I had the transmission rebuilt buy a local specialist as well as replaced the shift bushings and various other maintenance items. It has had regular oil changes and valve adjustments. The suspension has been updated with Koni struts and springs giving the car a slightly lower stance and great road manners. The tires are michelins with plenty of tread, and the exhaust has been updated and has a nice sound. The only other modification is the Optima Red Top battery and period correct rear trunk spoiler. I will go over the car, its upgrades and its needs in full detail in this write up and be as open and transparent as possible. I want this car to go to a good, loving home. Mechanical/functionality The 914 starts up every time even if its weeks or months in between uses. If it has sat for some time, especially in the dead of winter cold starts can require a little gas pedal work one it fires but from what I have read this isn't uncommon. The high idle works and once warm the idle comes down to about 1k rpm and purrs. Most all features work on this car from wipers to stereo to the pop-up lights to the heater... Yes the heater system and engine tins are present and mostly intact! Body/Paint The body is straight. No real damage or dings and the paint shines nice. Im sure there are areas where it has been resprayed and there is a spot of the passenger door with a handful of scratches. The chrome bumpers looks nice as do all the lenses. Overall its very presentable for its age and how original it is! The top is in good shape but I'm sure all the window seals have shrunk over time. Interior The interior, much like the exterior is also presentable but the vinyl shows signs of wear. There are tears that have been covered with special black tape so they don't get worse. It would be best to have the seats redone but they are usable as is and are still comfortable. The carpet kit has been replaced (not by me) and someone added a center console for two extra speakers and storage and its a really nice addition. The dash has some cracks but they are fairly small. The early style gauges are really cool check out the picture! They may be from an early 912. Rust situation Its not bad on this car, really. As you can see in the rear trunk picture, there is some surface rust under the trunk carpet where water would have sat. The front trunk has no rust. In the hell hole and under the battery box there is also some surface rust but its mostly just discoloration, hard to even call it rust. The only other spot i know of is in the right rear of the pan someone used a jack in the wrong spot and a little rust has developed there. No cancer on this car. It has been in salt free Washington and in a garage. Needs During the last year i haven't been able to use the Porsche as much as i would like. There are a couple things I think it could use to really be top notch. At freeway speeds you can hear one of the rear wheel bearings is going. Its not terrible but it should be addressed. There is a seep of oil from one of the pushrod tubes. This is very common area and can be resealed fairly easily with access under the valve cover. The temperature sending unit no longer does its job and will need replacement. I believe this sending unit works in conjunction with the cold start system which will function better once that problem is fixed I have loved owning and driving this car and I'm sad to sell it but my interests have changed and i really haven't been using it. If you have any questions ill be happy to answer them as openly and honestly as i can be. Its an old car and its by no means new or perfect. The Porsche is being sold AS IS in Seattle Washington by owner with a clean title in hand. Buyers inspections are strongly encouraged at buyers expense. The car is being sold locally as well and i reserve the right to end the auction early. If you include a phone number in messages ill get back to you shortly. Thanks,Jason
