Vehicle Detail

Selling a 1987 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo that needs a bit of work to be in top shape. This W124 model 6 cylinder diesel is becoming increasingly rare these days. Very low miles for its age, the salvage title is due to a prior owner calling the car a loss for an insurance check after a hail storm a few years back. The body has a few hard-to-notice dents due to golf ball size hail impact, and most of the paint has peeled off. The car starts and runs fine but will not proceed past second gear. You can drive the car up to 40 mph but that's about as fast as it'll go. I'm not sure why it won't switch gears, could be vacuum or fuel related, or the transmission has finally given up. In any case, included with the car is a spare transmission that I never got to swap. It's the right one, I just don't know anyone that is willing to do a transmission swap, nor do I have confirmation that it is necessary. The last mechanic to take a look at the car said the current transmission was fine. I've put in over 2k in the car, including 6 new high pressure fuel lines, new fuel injection pump, new fuel hose, new vacuum hose, new transmission fluid and filter, new battery, new transmission vacuum modulator. I've been told by the last mechanic I took it to that it needs new shocks, tires, a ball joint, serpentine belt, and that it leaks oil. It also needs a new fuel pre heater, which is currently bypassed because of a leak. The rear windows don't go down, driver side front needs a new regulator, passenger front and moon roof are super smooth. This car in better shape would run around $5000, possibly more with such low miles. I'm only being honest listing all the things it needs because I wouldn't feel comfortable patching it up and passing it on, and second, I just don't have the time to work on it anymore. This is definitely a project car for a Mercedes enthusiast or a mechanic in training interested in restoring a powerful diesel vehicle. There is a ton of info on this car on forums and on YouTube. Here's a link to the diesel mercedes YouTube channel which troubleshoots on the exact same car: Diesel Mercedes YouTube The car is beautiful inside, no cracks on any windows, solid body and actual miles. It's a rare specimen. This is not a daily driver, but could be for the right person. I'm also throwing in new rotors, new imported German transmission fluid and a few other miscellaneous parts with the car. Buyer is responsible for pick-up and transport. Deposit is due within 24 hrs. Remaining balance due within 3 days. Update: Replaced the battery for a brand new one a few days ago.
