With its 3.0L V6 turbo diesel, this ML320 CDI, you can forget just about everything bad you knew about diesels. It's smooth, quiet, and clean. It gives up nothing to the standard, gasoline-powered ML350. It's equipped identically, except for its diesel engine. The diesel engine represents state of the art and we really like it. It's as clean as the ML's gasoline engines and gets much better fuel economy. With this engine, there is no black soot, no sulfur smell and no loud, clattering noise. At idle the diesel engine in this ML320 CDI is nearly as quiet as the gasoline engine in the ML350 and that's when you're standing outside next to the vehicle! Inside, the driver is hard pressed to tell any difference between the gas and diesel engines, measured by noise or vibration. The only obvious difference is that the diesel shifts to a higher gear under full-throttle acceleration sooner than the gas engine to take advantage of its torque and goes farther on a tank of fuel. This engine generates 398 pound-feet of torque, comparable to a large-displacement V8 and brings a substantial improvement in fuel economy. From a snow-slicked road to a sweeping, dry curve, changing seasons, challenging roads, this outstanding, all original, in and out, 2008 ML 320 is loaded with with factory navigation, winter package and rear back up camera. "Excellence in SUV" My wife says she drives and loves the ML’s because it handles well, and she feels safe in it and likes being above other cars for visibility. It offers a confident feel during inclement weather as well as when negotiating twisty roads on the way to the hiking or mountain biking trail head. This low mile Mercedes was always serviced at Mercedes! This engine works beautifully and has a solid, strong running, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine rated at 215 hp and a stout 398 pound-feet of torque. I didn't even realize it was a diesel! Being a diesel, it provides better fuel mileage (rated at 19 mpg city and 26mpg highway) and range (more than 650 miles) than a comparably sized gasoline engine. She has a smooth shifting, 7-speed, electronically controlled, automatic, transmission which allows manual shifting by shifting controls up or down on the back of the steering wheel, with the gear displayed on the instrument panel. This SUV is capable of traversing terrain that few SUV buyers are likely to challenge. Meanwhile, the AWD delivers grip in mud, snow or uneven ground. Clean, Clear, Carfax!
