Vehicle Detail
You are looking at a piece of Racing history. This 1959 Ford Ranchero is outfitted with a 1961 406 cubic inch 410 horsepower police interceptor Tri-Power Police engine (V-8). This engine was given to Foyt by Ford Motor Company through Holman and Moody in 1962 along with matching Cruise-a-Matic transmission. Three carbs and plenty of power to haul or drag. Interior and exterior are in excellent condition. Foyt got this ranchero after winning his first Indy and then towed his race car with it for years in the 60's. All official memorabilia comes with the car, including autographed AJ Foyt collection book, autographed Collection Auction special pass and additional photos and email correspondence with Johnny Capels. Runs on highest octane gasoline available. Runs and drives great - ready for you to drive it home. Previous Owners: 1959-1962 Phil Martinez, Firestone Racing Engineer, Redondo Beach CA - Story goes, Foyt wanted the car and Martinez told him, "You go out and win the 500 and it's yours" - the next year, 1961, Foyt won. 1962-1993 A.J. Foyt Jr purchased the Ranchero after he won his first Indy 500 in 1961 1993-2002 Johnny Capels, Chief Mechanic for 1971-72 Indy and USAC Car Champs Joe Leonard, Mario Andretti, Al Unser Sr and others. Capels bought the ranchero from AJ's official classic collection at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in August, 1992 and he rebuilt as necessary. 2002- present - My dad bought the car from Capels and then passed later that year. It's been in my family since that time. Runs great in 60s-70s. Some rust on wheels and undercarriage Thanks for your interest in this unique piece of history. Happy BiddingJessOn Jul-09-17 at 11:47:08 PDT, seller added the following information: To be clear - this car has very minimal rust - The rust is only surface on some of the chrome plating and some of the components (inner exhaust pipe etc.) The wheel wells, bed pan, doors and floors are free of rust. A mechanic friend said on a scale of 1-10 10 being rusted out, this is a .5. Also I am unable to add a reserve but the car is attracting serious buyers in the $23-25k range and I will end this auction short if I do not have bids at that level. Thanks!
