Vehicle Detail
I have a smooth running 1979 Jeep CJ-5 up for auction. The previous owner had parked the Jeep about a year ago due to electrical problems according to him and it would not start. I got it home, cleaned out the fuel system, put 5 gallons of new gas in it, put a new battery and solenoid switch on it to get it to turn over, but it still would not start. I then put a new coil, plugs and some minor wiring to get the Jeep to start, then I found out the rear axle was stripped out, so both axles have been replaced with Yukon 1 piece axle shafts. The radiator had been stolen out of it, so I put a new aluminum radiator in the Jeep to get it running and driving. It is not an original Jeep radiator, but it works good and the Jeep runs cool. I had to bleed the brakes and replace the rear brake lines. All the pads were good, so I left them on the Jeep. I also noticed the axles have had the correct shims installed to keep the driveshaft angles correct for the lift on the Jeep. It has manual disc in the front and drums on the back. The steering was horrible, so I replaced the steering box, rag joint and the pressure side power steering hose and filled it with new fluid to get it driving correct. The Jeep drives pretty good now, considering the 36" tall bogger tires it has on it. The tires are 36x12.50x15 on 10" steel wheels with plenty of tread on them, but in my personal opinion I would replace them before I did a lot of highway driving. They have some cracks from sitting and dryrot, they roar and ride rough on the road. They hold air fine and I have driven the Jeep off road and on the back roads where I live, but never more than 40 mph and usually no more than a few miles. They will be great if you just plan to off-road the Jeep. It will be up to the winning bidder, but I would feel safer and I feel sure the Jeep would drive and ride better with a set of 35" all terrain type tires. All the fluids front to rear have been checked and/or changed and topped off as needed. All the grease fittings lubed also. The 4-wheel drive works as it should with the Dana transfer case, T-150 manual 3-speed transmission, manual hubs all are smooth, clutch is strong with no problems. The headlights, tail-lights and some of the dash lights work. The signal lights don't work, but I have a new signal light switch I am going to install next week and hope it will fix them. The speedometer, oil, temperature and volt gauges work. The fuel gauge and wipers don't work. I have checked the wires and made sure the fuel gauge/unit was grounded good. I assume the sending unit in the tank is bad. I have one that will be included with the Jeep, along with a good wiper motor, new wiper blades and some other miscellaneous parts. The Jeep has inside the frame headers with mufflers ran to the rear axle with turndowns. It sounds really good and runs good also. I haven't seen any smoke, it does not rattle and starts the 1st time everytime. All of the hardware is included for a softop along with the doors. The top was not worth saving, but all the frame/hardware is there for a replacement top. It has a new bikini top on it for summertime driving. The tub is in pretty good condition as far as rust goes. Previous owner said he liked the look of the diamond plate is the reason it was put on. The front fenders look really good. I couldn't find any rust in them. They probably have been replaced at some point. The floorpans in the front have had patch panels installed. They are strong and look fine. The inside of the tub has been Rhino lined and looks nice. The undercarriage has been pressure washed and painted with black Rustoleum. The frame has 2 panels on the inside at the rear about 4" long welded and bolted in. They look really good and you probably wouldn't notice it if they weren't pointed out to you. Seatbelts are in the Jeep. No back seat was in it when I got it. Passengers side front seat has a seam busted and drivers seat has a small place in the bottom. The Jeep is not perfect by any means, but it is a turn key Jeep that you can get in and drive it as is. It is priced accordingly, with a low reserve considering what some other Jeeps in similar condition are priced at on ebay. I have tried to described the Jeep as best as possible, but feel free to ask any questions and I will respond within a day. I check my emails daily. Look at my feedback and rating score on ebay and bid with confidence. I can help with shipping on the Jeep. I have 2 shippers that use. 1 will deliver anywhere in the US and the other within 250 miles of 24055. They are very reasonable on the rates and usually will deliver within 5 days. I can furnish a quote or give the winning bidder the contact information. Again, thanks for looking, feel free to ask questions and good luck bidding.
