1959 Ford Galaxie 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop Convertible "$125,000 Restoration" Click Here For Restoration Pictures Appraisal Options PDF Version $49.95 USD Full Color Bound Copy $129.90 USD 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop Convertible "$125,000 Restoration" One of the very best restored Skyliners in the world!" Gulfstream Blue/Colonial White with Blue & White interior "352 cid V-8 rated at 300hp Drives just like it looks-PERFECT!.......1959 Classic perfection at it's best Let us begin by pointing out that the reserve we have placed on this car is FAR less than its cost of restoration. A frame off restoration of any Skyliner to this level would easily cross the six figure mark. $125,000+ and 2-3 years to complete. The difference between a Skyliner that would be worth $45,000-$50,000 and one restored to concourse quality standards like this car that would be considered "well bought" in the $65,000-$70,000 range is not $15,000-$20,000....it is $100,000 plus that you would have to spend today to restore it to this level. Remember, it is always better to invest in a near perfect, original low mileage correct car or to buy a car done to perfection like this car, than to try and have a car restored yourself. The one who pays for the restoration, hardly ever comes close to breaking even. The thick 'baby book' that will accompany this Skyliner (filled with photos) will take you through the entire restoration process! This is a Concourse restored automobile that is a sure 1st placed winner in any judging event. A Nationwide independent inspection and appraisal company visited Garage Memories and spent several hours photographing this car, checking out every accessory and drove this car. The checked and verified the numbers on the left front of the block. (see hi resolution photo of this number) They also researched the sale of similar and their findings are in this report. type vehicles. In an age where brand aesthetics can easily hang around for a decade, it's hard to imagine any automaker turning out jaw-dropping but completely different designs for five years in a row. Between 1955 and 1960, Ford did just that and, over time, each model has become an exalted classic. The 1959 Fairlane 500 Galaxie is one of the most sought after cars of its era, with examples like this professionally restored Skyliner serving as great reminders why. There's simply NOTHING like it on today's roads, and that's without factoring the car's 352 cubic inch Thunderbird Special V8, 3-speed automatic transmission or striking Gulfstream Blue-on-Colonial white color combination that's guaranteed to turn heads. So, if you're the kind of enthusiast who enjoys being the center of attention, take a minute to get to know this incredible Ford convertible! The Ford engineer who designed this incredible example of mechanical art was Ben E. Smith.... At a recent national convention of Ford Skyliners and their owners (with our Skyliner participating), Mr. Smith, now 92 years old, graciously signed the inside of the deck lid. BODYWORK/TRIM Driven a few hundred shakedown miles since completion and presenting much better than when it originally rolled down San Jose's storied assembly lines, this impressive drop-top has been transformed into a take-no-prisoners weekender that consistently headlines cruise nights. You won't be staying under the radar with its professionally finished Gulfstream Blue on Colonial White paintwork, which has been carefully applied over a very clean and straight body. In the photos below, you'll see photos of the car's restoration, including before and after shots. Even before the painstaking restoration, this car was straight and rust free. And ultimately, everything adds up to one super cool cruiser that, thanks to its spectacular combination of color and trim, has an absolutely magnetic presence! HISTORY OF THE RETRACTABLE HARDTOP CONVERTIBLE Beginning in 1952, The Lincoln Continental division of Ford spent almost two million dollars in R & D on developing & building a retractable hardtop under the direction of Ben Smith. When it was decided a retractable top would make the Continental too expensive, The Lincoln Division turned the project over to Ford, where Ben Smith tweaked his retractable mechanism to revolutionize Ford's top of the line Fairlane 500 (and later Galaxie). Ford spent an additional Eighteen million dollars on this project before the 1st Skyliner rolled off the Ford assembly lines. The Skyliner had only a three year run, from 1957-1959. It would be thirty five years before another automaker would venture into the retractable hardtop business. The entire retractable mechanism this Skyliner has been professionally restored and completely rebuilt. It works to perfection! If you've never experienced the joy of pressing a single button and turning an all steel hardtop into an open convertible in less than 60 seconds, you're in for a treat. And here's a guarantee: take this retractable to a car show and park it next to ANY other classic, regardless of price - and IT will steal the show! Operate the top for spectators and they'll break into applause. I ought to know - I've owned a Geranium and White 1959 Skyliner for 25 years and still have it! And oh.. I've NEVER had a problem with the top's operation in all my years of ownership! Here's a hint to keep your retractable working like it left the factory: Be sure to put the top up or down only when the car is on a LEVEL surface. Do that and you'll virtually insure tip-top operation for years to come. ENGINE Tilt this Ford's sculpted hood up and you'll find Ford's optional 352 cubic inch Thunderbird Special V8 that has been completely rebuilt to specs and dressed to impress. Introduced in 1958 as a high-end Ford and Mercury engine, this stout big block remained one of Dearborn's hottest factory options for many years. At the top of the 352 CID V-8 mill, a bright blue air cleaner draws wind in to a big 4-barrel carburetor that's juiced by a series of stainless fuel lines. Atomized octane passes through a cast iron intake manifold to correct, cast iron heads that are topped by painted and Ford-branded valve covers. At the front of those valve covers you'll see a correct fan and a tagged radiator. The radiator keeps the block cool via pliable hoses and modern screw clamps. Spark comes courtesy of a traditional points and distributor, which sequences fire between a Ford coil and fresh plug wires. Aesthetically, this convertible's bay presents a clean, mostly authentic appearance all the way from its Spartan horn and fresh decals to its reproduction battery and Motorcraft oil filter. And best of all, the 352/300 horsepower engine fires instantly and sounds surprisingly beefy breathing through OEM-style exhaust. DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION At the bottom of this Skyliner, a fully sorted undercarriage houses typically over-restored floors that are bolted to lots of factory-correct components. Nice enough to show but still fully drivable, this is the perfect compromise for enthusiasts who like to display their car and enjoy fun-filled weekends. Behind the beefy power plant, a Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission spins torque to a familiar Ford 9-inch that's fitted with pleasant, highway-friendly gears. The car's suspension remains close to its original configuration, with factory power steering complementing factory control arms and traditional leaf springs. All of the chassis' parts are free of weathering, additional evidence that this Skyliner has seen only break-in miles since its complete restoration. Braking is quick and adequate thanks to fresh drums that occupy all four corners of that chassis. On the outside of those drums, 215/75R14 SBR Coker whitewalls spin with a fresh set of spectacular Kelsey Hayes Wire Wheels with Blue insert spinners. INTERIOR 2-tone paint is legendary for its characteristically '50s feel. And when paired with this hardtop convertible's airy interior, it creates the perfect culmination of style and sophistication. There's tight carpet that, thanks to low miles, still features rich blue loops. Front and center, a 2-tone dash hangs restored Ford telemetry next to a correct Original push-button Ford AM radio. At the sides of that dash, flashy chrome laden door panels, center chrome handles and sculpted armrests above spectacular Ford-branded sills. And in front of the driver, a white & blue steering wheel spins a stylized rim around a chrome Ford-branded horn ring. This first class Ford is a nicely polished piece of jet-age magic that's ready to be shown and celebrated. With its sturdy 352/automatic drive train, streetability certainly won't be a problem. And the car's impressive interior is every bit as welcoming now as it was when new. Why? Because it IS new - an all new CORRECT interior by of ABC Interiors. Please take the time to read all of the copy and look at every hi-definition photograph and watch all the videos....If you do, you will probably have most of your questions answered and get a good sense of feeling just how nice this car is. We're extremely proud of our 16 years of 100% feedback .On March 15th of 2000 we sold our 1st vintage car on Ebay, a 1967 Olds W/30, 4/Speed in Yellow with white bucket seats Convertible for $21,000. Probably worth $75,000 today if it's been well cared for? We spend countless hours writing the descriptions of every car we offer exclusively on ebaymotors.com and spend many hours taking 100's of photographs and then selecting the best 75-100 pictures on every car. We spend countless hours making sure every car we offer is the best it can be. If we find a light bulb out, we replace it, if the clock is not working, we will alert you to that...we do our best to never "Surprise" anyone. If a car needs a new battery....we install one....We drive all of our cars for 50-200 miles and if we find something not working...we fix it....if we don't fix it---we tell you in the auction copy what is not working. One of my pet complaints is spending good $ for a car that arrives with barely enough gas to get it off the truck...that will never be the case with any car sold by us. After detailing, each car is shipped in a clear "Car Condom" a special plastic covering with an elastic band that holds the cover down at your cars closest point to the ground and preventing any dust or dirt from getting on your car while being transported. We recommend you use the services of Mary Olson who owns Crossroads Transport and that you only use an enclosed carrier. Mary has shipped almost 1500 great cars for us over the last several years...she is the best and will save you money in the process. The weather here is fantastic...especially the evenings....This car could have 100 or 200 more miles on it by the time someone reaches the reserve price or calls us up and makes a deal on the phone...and YES we love trades...especially Vintage cars in #1 or #2 Condition. Call us at (954) 873-6495 and tell us what you have to trade....we will try our best to put this fabulous 1959 Skyliner in your garage for some wonderful "Garage Memories" Remember the "Good Old Days?" And remember, when you buy a car at an auction, you have no clue as to how that vehicle is going to drive. We drive every car 100-200 miles to make sure they drive and run as close to perfect as possible... any of our cars can be picked up in South Florida and driven Coast to Coast with complete reliability, safety and in comfort. Finally, we welcome any pre-inspection of our cars by an Inspection company that is hired by a potential buyer. If they have the proper insurance and a valid Driver's license we let them drive the car as well. We are extremely proud of the cars we offer which has resulted in a 100% feedback rating for more than 16 years. We sold our 1st vintage car on Ebay in March of 2000. Prior to that, for 40 years we sold almost every car through print media. The question we are always asked "How do you find all of these incredible cars?" The answer is simple. We have been collecting the best of the best since 1960! During these past 56 years we have met 1000's and 1000's of wonderful guys & girls who love this hobby as much as we do. Unfortunately many have and do pass away and when they do the families call us. The cars most often find us for the 2nd time....we don't "find" the cars. We fly in to inspect the car, most of the times it's a collection which can be 5 or 6 cars....or more. Many times it's a lot more, 25, 50 or as high as 100+ cars. When we purchase & ship the cars back to Florida we inspect and drive every car. If it needs anything, we have it correctly & expertly repaired. We don't take shortcuts. If an Air-conditioning system is not working, we don't just add Freon....we go through the entire system and fix it right. We're not perfect and once in a great while we might overlook something...if we do...call us and we will do everything we can to make it right. A very long time friend recently asked us "Why do you try and make every thing work in all of your cars?" I replied in an instant by saying "Because that is way we would love to buy all of our vehicles" Additionally, we're not greedy. A small markup is added to each car, we keep the overhead to a minimum and always "leave room" for the new buyer to sell his or her car should they make that decision. We never try to just "Make a sale" because a sale is usually a one time event. Instead, we do our best to "Make a customer" because a customer is forever and that's a VERY good thing in business. It is UNDERPRICED the current market on a car equipped like this and restored to this level! COUTTS INDEX REVEALS CLASSIC CARS AS TOP PERFORMING PASSION INVESTMENT DURING 2014 Classic cars* rise 40% in 2014 and up nearly four fold since 2005 2015 out performed 2014 and 2016 so far is outpacing 2015 Watches show biggest drop during 2014 Stamps and coins, only assets to increase over nine consecutive years Coins continue to rise, up 176% over nine years and up 9% in 2014 Classic cars increased in value by 40% during 2014, and have increased in value nearly four fold, since 2005, according to the latest edition of the Coutts Index. In its second year, the report shows that while passion investments have increased just 0.8% during 2014, this masks the diversity of returns of the various underlying categories which have increased overall by 80% (local currency terms) since 2005. The Index aims to provide the global benchmark for monitoring the performance of passion assets. Developed in conjunction with Fathom Consulting, the Coutts Index captures the price return in local currency (net of the holding costs) of 14 passion assets across two broad categories: trophy property and alternative investments. Alternative investments can be further broken down into fine art, collectibles and precious items. The Coutts Index also incorporates a real estate component supplied by Savills World Research and fine art prices from Mei Moses®. Highlights from this year’s results include: Collectibles – coins have appreciated every year, up 176% since 2005. By contrast, Fine Wine was the only Collectable to see prices fall in 2014, down more than 9% in the third consecutive year of contraction after rapid price growth in 2006-07 Fine Art – of all the Fine Art categories, Traditional Chinese Art has seen the greatest overall price growth since 2005, more than doubling over the period. However, this was the only art category to fall in 2014 with prices contracting 13%. Precious Items – 2014 was not a strong year for Jewellery or Watches with price growth for the former dropping from more than 14% in 2013 to under 2% in 2014. The average price of watches contracted by more than 17% last year, undoing some of the progress made since the recession. Property – despite some of the headlines regarding London’s super-prime real estate market, 2014 was actually an unremarkable year for Trophy Properties – divided into residential properties (luxury properties in ten prime global city locations) and leisure properties (in the world’s most desirable leisure destinations), with the former virtually unchanged and the latter falling by 2%. This is against a backdrop of double digit increases before the 2008 financial crisis. Mohammad Kamal Syed, Head of Financial Advice and Investment Solutions at Coutts, said: “At a time of paltry interest rates, we continue to see lots of interest from the wealthy in finding somewhere worthwhile and out of the ordinary to put their money.
