Vehicle Detail
My '78 5-speed rolled down the driveway and hit a telephone pole. The rear suspension was not damaged from what I can tell. The rear wheels are still aligned and she still drives. I don't have the time to have this repaired, so I am selling her to someone who hopefully will get some good out of her. The engine short block is from a 1983 4.7L Euro S 5-speed (M28/11). Heads and cam towers are from an '86 Euro S Auto. The rest of the engine is from the original '78 (including the oil pickup and cams) The engine has about 20k on it since valve job, new rings and rod and main bearings. The original cambelt tensioner was tossed for the PorKen model. The exhaust manifolds are the stainless tubular ones from the 86 model. It has a Borla cat-back that my shop managed to install on this '78. (Cat is gutted.)This engine is very strong. It has never been on a dyno. The transmission is in good shape and, as expected, hard to shift into 2nd when cold. When warm, all is well. The shifter has a couple inches cut off the top. The torque tube bearings were replaced and about 8 years ago and also have about 20k miles on them. The rear wheel bearings were replaced a few years back. The AirCon blows cold. I rebuilt all the hoses with barrier hose and green o-rings. The expansion valve, drier and condenser were all replaced with new. The compressor is from a later model (needed for the bracket as the '78 bracket/compressor is not compatible with the cambelt tensioner). I have not needed to add R-12 (Freon) since 2008! The car was repainted Dunkelblau (code 347) 5 years ago. I believe it was originally beige (see hatch), but black when I bought it. The interior was vinyl and recovered about 15 years ago. It is not cork. The wheels are Carrera III's with 225/40-18 on front and 265/35-18 on back. The Sumitomo HRT's have lots of life left. Headlights are Hella 7" H4 E specs. I would regularly drive this car on long road trips without a problem. The Euro Cam nose broke and stranded me in '08, but this car never let me down other than that. Buy it and come get it. Thanks for looking and good luck. July 18th: I've added more pictures of the rear of the car. July 20th: I forgot to say that I put Bilsteins on all four with adjustable perches on the front. (Rides like it is on rails.)And new CIS injectors/rebuilt Fuel Distributor when the engine went in. A/F gauge so you can see it is all working great! (I'll throw in my fuel pressure gauges too.) I hope someone fixes this car and doesn't make a bundle parting it out!
