Vehicle Detail
I have dreamed of owning and restoring one of these cars, but unfortunately it is just not going to work out for me with my family. I recently purchased the car from an aquaintance in hopes of restoring it to its former glory. It had Been sitting since 1995 when I brought it home. I have cleaned and lined the gas tank, installed minor kits in the carbs, installed brake master cylinder kit, clutch master cylinder kit, new slave cylinder. 4 brand new tires. My initial goal was to get it mobile so that I can move it around my property. And that has been achieved. This is a car that can be started and driven around short distances at this time. It needs a full restoration to make it an enjoyable reliable car.I was surprised to find that it is smoking a little and the transmission jumps out of 5th gear. The previous owner said it was driving well when parked. From what I understand the transmission is probably the main shaft nut has loosened allowing 5th gear to shift out of position. The smoking may indicate the engine needs to be gone through, or the oil rings are still stuck from sitting. The engine still runs strong, and the smoke has decreased the few times I have driven it. The body was painted in the 90s and although I see some areas with filler I do not see many rusty areas. Frame and door bottoms are solid. I have found a spot in the left rear wheel well, a small spot in the drivers floor board, and I think there is a spot in the passenger wheel arch hidden. Trunk seems solid overall. Interior is rough. Drivers seat needs rebuild, passenger seat seems ok, carpet is cheap glued in stuff from the 90s. Top was a high quality top but it's serviceable life is mostly done. It is a u20 engine, but does not appear to be numbers matching, I have the air filter cover and a new filter, along with a cap, rotor, and points. Feel free to call and ask questions,Bryan512-750-6400
