This van needs a timing chain system repair. I do not have the time or $ to handle this, but this could be a hell of a van for someone with the knowledge & ability to repair! Van is NOT currently running, will not start, and would need to be towed / dragged away. The Nissan VQ35 3.5L V6 is known for timing chain issues, and this one has had a rattle that comes and goes for a while. Evidently the timing chain guide is metal & plastic, and after age/use the plastic part breaks off and moves out of place to where the hydraulic tensioner can no longer keep the chain adequately tight and it rattles against the housing. When the engine revs over 2,000 rpms the noise goes away because the chain spins fast enough to plane out, but under 2,000 rpms there is enough slop for the chain to wobble around and contact the housing. The chain on this van must have gotten enough slop that it jumped a tooth and is now out of time enough that it will not start. Prior to this happening yesterday I had been driving the van around with no issues. I've been offered $ from junkyards to buy the van, but figured it may be worth more to someone who could fix it. It would likely make a good van for many more miles once running again. If you're a wrencher you could probably make some $ reselling this van once running. More info: 2007 Nissan Quest S model in pearl white with 196k miles. 3.5L V6 engine w automatic transmission, cruise control, A/C, power windows and locks, power right side sliding door and power rear liftgate. Stereo with 6 disc changer and aux input. Tan interior, 2 captains chairs in middle and bench seat in way back that folds down into rear cargo well making a nice large flat area. Good matching Firestone tires. Synthetic oil since I owned it at 90k miles. Oil and filter change just done. New cooling fans. New front brake pads. New battery about 1 year ago.
